Re: Massive CLD from Cap One

Another CLD. Was at $35,500, this was achieved via account combination. Also, had a recent fraudulent charge on an AU's card that was in my possesion during the fraud.

Luckily Cap1 caught is quickly and issued a new AU card. When I was using the chat feature to active the AU card I requested the decrease to $25,000. They immediately decreased my CL and told me to have a nice day!

As I begin my consolidation strategy, I could not think of a reason to keep the higher CL.

Not qute clear on something: Was the $35.5K card and the AU card the same one you took the voluntary CLD on---or were there 2 different cards involved? If so--what did they decrease the $35.5K card down to?

Re: Massive CLD from Cap One

I am the primary card holder and my daughter is the AU. The fraud was on my daughter's card and she had not been in position of that card for 6 months. Her card number was used online but at a Wal-mart that is not too far away. Capital1 cancelled her card and sent a new one in the mail.

I had pushed to limit to $35.5K by combining a venture card into my QS. So, when I used the Chat feature to activate the AU card, I decided to reduce the credit line to $25,000. The Cap1 has been a great card but is not a daily driver. Thought I would get ahead of any potential CLD and bring the limit down that does not see much action.

To wrap it up, I decreased the limit to a more modest $25,000 from the $35,500.

I think what he's suggesting in a round about way is for people with $30K + CLs to take the CL down to something more sensible to match your usage voluntarily instead of letting CO do it for you--otherwise you won't be able to pick how much of the CL you wish to keep.

1. just because his limit isn't decreased so far, doesn't mean it won't get the axe. these are coming on slowly.

2. he started his post 100 with "Another CLD." It wasn't. and it was confusing.

3. You replied to THAT post with "Not qute clear on something: ..." so you were confused. which is what I said.

so, why are you arguing with me now?

Not arguing--MY only confusion was about how many cards were involved-hence my asking the qiestion for clarification. But what he did with the AU card can be taken as a good suggestion to anyone with a $30K + CL.

and why is decrease by cap1 worse than decrease by oneself? how do we know the former is worse than the latter?

anyways, we're veering off topic. feel free to respond, but I prolly won't. if it's of general interest, others may certainly respond, but I don't want to turn it into a 2-way conversation.

Re: Massive CLD from Cap One

I posted here as this thread gave me the idea to reduce my CL to below $30K and avoid Cap1 making a similar move.

Feels better if I pull the trigger on a line reduction versus having the lender do it. Score wise the change would be the same if I reduced the line or Cap1 reduced the line.
