I have two HSBC issued credit cards.
HSBC Platinum Mastercard CL: 3500 (currently open, bal: 1347)
and BestBuy Rewardzone Mastercard CL: 450 (closed by consumer, bal: 319)
okay, so i have these two cards and the Best Buy rewardzone card is closed with a balance of 319. I read some posts here which stated that hsbc had declined some applications stating, "YOU ALREADY HAVE THE MAX NUMBER OF CARDS ALLOWED WITH HSBC."
so i call a backdoor number to hsbc lending services 1-800-685-9812, and give the credit analyst the same scenario. she confirmed that the MAX number of cards allowed was two (2) and since the rewardzone card had a balance it counted against the two card limit, even though it is closed. So i told her what if i paid it off, and her reply was that it would allow me to be considered for another card without the two (2) card limit. But, i would have to apply for another card and get her a reference number so that she could consider it and possibly overturn i, at which time i asked for her direct line (extension number) so i could get back to her right away if i got that response and we could work on it together.
So anyway, i went to the hsbc website and pre-qualified for the hsbc platinum mastercard with cash back rewards. Once i clicked the "apply" button, behold what do i see, "YOU ALREADY HAVE THE MAX NUMBER OF CARDS ALLOWED WITH HSBC."
I called her back, gave her the reference number and she pulled it up - and then she says, "its showing an approved CL of 2000, would you like to accept?
Ofcourse i said yeah ... so she proceeded to notate the application, it is approved pending final payment posting on my best buy rewardzone mastercard. Once the payment posts, and the balance on the bbuy card shows zero, she would send out the new card ...
anyways, made the payment online.... will post by the 8th (thats the earliest) ... give it a couple of days and then probably call her back on the 10th ...
excellent results, the bbuy rewardzone card was not going no where that's why i had closed it... and now a much better card with a much better credit line, no AF, and 0% apr for 6 months.
very interesting... I called HSBC the other day and asked if there was such a thing as a max number of cards. The CSR told me no, so like an idiot i went to the website and applied for what would be my third card with them. My app was declined for having the max number of cards. I guess ill give them a call on monday and see if they can do anything if i close one of my deadbeat cards with them.
Thanks for the post
well, true or not !! and whether their csr's themselves know for sure or not; but this has been my experience and i have seen quite a few posts here where forum members have mentioned the csr's stating a two card limit. and then this time, i was told that by the credit analyst in their lending dept and i am pretty sure she has a better idea then the front line csr's especially because whe probably pours over many applications manually a day .... anyway, i hope the information helped someone ...
peace.
