Maximum Number of Cap One Cards: A Guide

Just trying to clear this up as this question happens a lot.  Hopefully this'll save some people from some serious frustration.  Emphasis in neon green on the screenshots is mine.

You can only have ONE Capital One card if your card is the Capital One Builder Program card.  After it graduates and becomes a regular platinum, then the rules are the same as they are for the regular Platinum card (see below).

From the T&C of the Builder Program:

If you have TWO OR MORE Capital One cards open, you will get denied when attempting to apply for the following cards: QuicksilverOne, Platinum, Journey, Secured.

From the T&C of QuicksilverOne, which is the same as Platinum, Journey, Secured:

You have have FIVE TOTAL Capital One cards.  This includes all cards offered.

From the T&C of Venture, which is the same for VentureOne and Quicksilver:

FWIW, I have a total of SIX cards - 2 rebuilders and 4 prime cards.

This is coming from Cap One's website.  A lot of people have been posting lately that they're getting rejected for having too many accounts so this was just trying to shed some light on that.

There are exceptions to rules on occasion - some people have like 3 Platinum cards and Cap One says you can't based on this - but it seems like those people ended up having some weird hiccup happen.  But since this is a rarity, I figure being pointed to Cap One's terms and conditions can clear that up a bit.

I had 5, now have only two and both are prime cards. I remember when I couldn't have any more than two and their combined CLs were $800, so there eventually comes an up point, when you're good.

ksb1, DH had a total of six cards, all prime.  Just closed a Quicksilver Visa Sig this last weekend.  There have been some who have questioned how is that possible that he had six.  The last time he app'd, he app'd for two cards which put him at six. You have confirmed that one can have more than five cards.

This is a awesome thread, I feel stupid now but it all makes sense.

I have had this complex understanding forever that you can have 2 sub primes and 5 primes, but they dont want to give more then 2 cards if you only qual for a subprime card anyway so now I know why they deny me for the QS1 everytime

Capital One quicksilver one

Capital One platinum I recently did a PC to quick silver

Union plus- Capital One

Lord and Taylor-Capital One

Neiman Marcus-Capital One

Kohls- Capital One

It's becoming more and more apparent that Cap One will be a little more lax on their rules than their T&C states it will but I know a lot of people get frustrated with being turned down for a Cap One card due to having "too many accounts" (it happens pretty often) that it was worth pointing to the terms to explain why.
