What if one got it for the bonus?

Agreed. Reminds me of a little crow finding a worthless piece of metal and flying it back to his nest because it's shiny. Is this what we have come to? Apparently so.

Oh, that's not it. I have cool-looking and semi-metallic black Marriott card, and on the rare occasions I do use it, it does seem to impress people. But the reason I use it rarely - and will close it soon - is because its rewards aren't useful to me.

Then it wasn't gotten for the purpose kdm is describing.

But my scores are good enough, and I don't want them! Unlike OP I don't even care what they look like to the CRAs (whatever that would mean) , I evaluate purely on the financial rewards they return. But an ugly card is fine, I used the Fidelity Amex even though it got a lot of hate here for its appearance.
So I guess I can't trust you!

Show me one example where someone said that. Once again your projecting your opinions onto other people's motivation.

Perhaps not the exact same words, but there are actually plenty of threads here that talk primarily or exclusively about card aesthetics. Examples:
And I can't even count the posts here that follow the pattern "Omg I just got the X card and dropped it just to hear the metal cling on the floor", or my personal favorite, "girls like it!"
So while we're not going to find a thread that says aesthetics is the sole purpose of getting card, tons of evidence exists to suggest that it is at least a tipping point and perhaps a decisive factor to get a card, and most certainly a bragging point after getting it. The point about overfocus on aesthetics isn't exactly invalid, even if it weren't artfully made.

It probably wouldn't be very durable, but would come in handy when you get to the end of the roll.
