Merging Cap1 accounts

I have 2 Cap1 QS1 cards. One has a $1750 limit and the other is $2150. The 2nd one is only a few months old but after the 5th payment (next month) they will grant a $500 CLI. I am contemplating merging the two accounts and asking for a PC to QS Visa with no AF. My question is, would they do a HP or SP to merge them or is it purely up to their discretion? I was hoping to merge and get a CLI at the same time but I know the CLI is a crap shoot and a SP but I am ok with that. If they do the merge will both my current accounts close and a new one open or should I get the option to keep the oldest account active?

No pull whatsoever to combine. You have the option of which card to keep open. If you're going for a CLI too, I would do that FIRST, and then combine.

Re: Merging Cap1 accounts

Thanks and yes, I will definilty do the CLI first. I hit the button today on the newest one and got $150. lol. I just paid it off yesterday though. I use these cards for everything for the rewards and then pay them off immediately.  I would like to have these merged and become my first 10K card eventually.

Re: Merging Cap1 accounts

They won't change networks for you, but they may remove the annual fee permenantly and grant you a QS MC.  A QS1 can become a QS World MasterCard but won't ever become a Visa.

Funny, I just found a blog saying the same thing. lol. I did not know that. I wonder why they only give me mastercards? My Spark Classic is a Visa. I wonder what criteria they use to determine that?

They gave you a MasterCard because that's what you applied for. You have to apply for a QS Visa specifically. Cap One doesn't make the decision to give you a Visa or MC you do when you apply.

Re: Merging Cap1 accounts

I got prequalified for the QS1 and I am guessing that only comes in Mastercard because I never got asked which one I want. When I got the PC offer to upgrade my Platinum it was MC again. Is it because they were both QS1's? I don't think I have ever seen a QuuckSilver One Visa?

Re: Merging Cap1 accounts

Yes the QS1 comes only in MC and is considered a lower tier card opposed to the regular QS. The QS visa is in their website and is a separate card to apply for. They usually keep thier lower tier cards such as the standard platinum and QS1 as MC's and the higher end cards as Visa's i.e. Venture and QS. You can however upgrade your QS1 to a world MC when it reaches a certain CL.
