Kinda unsure on how to handle this or if maybe I'm overreacting. My Merrick Bank credit card is in the process of changing to a Mastercard I guess within the next month. Today when I logged in to my account I noticed the balance was $0 and no payment was due...but I have a payment due on the 17th usually and I know the balance isn't $0!
So I called customer service and got a rep who..well it took several times trying to repeat myself to get her to understand my question, but eventually she told me that the online system showed everything like this due to the changeover and not to worry about a payment on the 17th...
So my question is this, should I "not worry" about the payment as she said or is there some way I can make a payment still? I have a perfect payment history and don't want to mess up anything due to what some random rep told me. Any thoughts?
I am no expert but I would think that the best bet would be to go based off of the last statement you received. Keep it on hand in case they do down the line state you missed a payment and you can dispute said reporting with the bureaus.
Push a payment from your bank. While it might not show on the front end a payment is due, I'm willing to bet on the backend it's still keeping track. Or, get it in writing that no payment is due because of the upcoming change. Keep in mind, even if you have it in writing, if something goes wrong, it will take time to fix. If you don't want to deal with that, push a payment from your bank.

Sometimes this happens with BECU .. but it's more planned than a glitch in the system. They skip December's payment and generate a statement showing a balance but with $0 due.

^^^ This
One of the many reasons I set up push payments to each credit cards I have.
There are a few things where pushing payments works better than pulling.
Then there is also the issue of issuers -web/mobil being down, and having another way to pay set up and tested.
Worth setting up for each even if you want to pull or go auto.

Yes you should worry.
Yes you should make a payment.

If you know that there is a balance, you should still make payment. Don't give them any opportunity/chance to raise your APR to the highest one. Or you can just send a check to the mailing address from your previous statment for at least the minimum payment. This will help you to be on the free and clear. There is NO way with Merrick that you are not obligated to pay unless they put you in a special program.

oh **** no. That's a mouse trap. OP make that payment regardless of what there portal and clueless reps are telling you. When it goes wrong, they will treat you like they don't know you, jack up your APR, ruin your credit score, and drag you through the mud due to their own error and won't even offer a hollow apology in the end. Don't chance it. Pay them.
I agree with all of the above posters. Don't listen to the rep. Just send a push payment from your bank at least for the minimum.
I agree with everything that's been said here. Push a payment their way, or even mail them a check the old fashioned way (you can print out your latest statment to get the info you need to do that, along with a payment slip).
At the very least, as long as it gets there within 30 days of the due date, your credit report won't suffer. (It's still much better to push a payment through so you don't get fees or a higher APR, and you look good on their records.)
If they're right and you don't owe anything, the worst thing that could happen is they'll simply credit your account for the overpayment.
