Dear fellow MyFICOers,
I'm not getting the category bonus when I'm buying coffee from a local cafe; this has happened on both my Cash+ and my CSP. This establishment (across all its branches in my city) uses Square iPad readers. The transactions don't show up as dining / fast food on either card.
Is this a coding problem? Is this a Square problem?
Is there a way I could get the bonus points (and make sure that I get them in future too)?
It is a coding problem. I have a local coffee shop I like as well, and they too use Square, but my transactions post correctly under cafe/restaurants category and I get my extra cashback.

What are they showing up as? Coding varies with every business, and sometimes it doesn't always make sense. For example, the Circle K near me codes as Gas, although they haven't sold gas in years. When I ate at ESPN Zone recently, it coded as "Entertainment - Theatrical Events" instead of "Restaurants," so that irked me.
It's because of how they're coded with Square.

Same here. My favorite coffeeshop uses Square and is properly coded for rewards.

Not sure what they're showing up as. On these 2 cards (CSP, Cash+) I can see the transaction and the points earned (current statement, not posted). The square transactions are not getting coded as dining - I know this because they're not eligible for the extra points.
How can I figure out what they are coded as (on these two cards)? Should I use another card (Discover / Cap One) to figure out?

So, basically it's the establishment that's at fault here. Granted. What's the general principle here: should I ask the CSRs to manually add points? Do the Cash+ and/or CSP CSRs accept such requests? Or should I just use Cap One Q/S at this establishment and forget about it?
I visit this place once or twice a month; they're a decent place when I don't want to visit Starbucks. I wouldn't like to push CSRs each time.
I honestly think the CCC would push back and say the business is at fault for not coding correctly. I'd probably just see how it codes using your QS.

Thanks. Will check and report back.
Stupid question: If you are trying to meet spend for bonus points, is a cup of coffee moving the needle?

I didn't ask about spend. I asked about getting points for dining. My CSP spend needs were met within a month, and Cash+ has no such requirement.
