OP- Comenity definitely likes you to spend to get CLI but they do not "require it", we see lots of people who have not ever used on their cards and have been able to get CLI's.

VS and EX used to be you had to wait 9 months or so to get a CLI. I dont have those cards. I do have J crew card. Opened a year ago with a $500.00 CL, immediately raised to $800.00. Now its at $18,000.00. I use the card once a month. If I added all my spend on that card from the past year i have spent a couple thousand.

One shouldn't expect a CLI without spend.

-C'mon Angel - as the pink striped glitter card bounces around - USE ME

I've used it once.  I don't know how many underthings a person can really buy all the time. That's a lot of *** protection.

YES!  Exactly the same thing!  Once you buy something, it's an auto cli.

Re: More COMENITY luv button crazy antics....

oh come on people, credit limits aren't simply for" the necessity" , like buying sports bras and wonder panties at Victoria secret, they are for padding utilization, financing large purchases without an effect on your score, enhancing your credit portfolio, etc.

after all, we are talking about banks here. We aren't taking about non-profit organizations researching cures and helping the helpless.

Take what you can get from these people, use it responsibly, and have no regrets. When you go down, none of these banks will be there to pick you up, and when they go down, they won't think twice about walking away like nothing ever happened.

Responsibility, not necessity.

Utilization padding really only has a "large" effect when it is on the account itself that reports a balance and thus is being utilized. (90% is still 90% even if total is 5%) But that isn't what this thread is about.

Re: More COMENITY luv button crazy antics....

That's an incorrect statement. overall utilization and singular utilization are both important. I would argue that having 5% overall utilization is significantly more important than having 80% utilization on one card.

If you have 10,000 in limits, and add a 10,000 card, which is really what we are talking about here with Comenity (barney's, blue nile, etc.) your 50% overall utilization with 5000 in balances, drops to 25% in overall utilization.

That is a monstrous effect.

Re: More COMENITY luv button crazy antics....

Notice none of the true gurus argue this point. High overall and singular utilization hurts scores but high singular utilization hurts scores just as bad even with low overall utilization. 0/30K wont cancel out your 4/5K no matter how much you want it to. I have personally seen this effect on reports when meeting spend bonuses and going above 30% on one or several cards at once and letting them report even though I wasnt even at 5% overall. Lets get back on topic is about. CLIs are for spenders in most cases. Spend some money or expect goose eggs.
