I actually preferred SM since I felt it would lower my chances of dealing with lending, at least "in person".
It's very possible the SM rep had to contact lending on my behalf or manually forward my request to them, but in any case it was approved (and I didn't have to be concerned with being transferred while on the phone).
I've been trying to get rid of my IHG Card since I stopped staying at IHG once SPG merged into Marriott and gave me more options. All I have with Chase is the Marriott Business Card through so I'd have to pick up a personal card that's not 5/24 restriced... assuming you can't transfer from personal to business. Don't wanna lose my $10k Credit Line.

I don't know about transferring from personal to business... I'll have to defer to somebody else for that, but like you I also suspect you can't (although with Amex you can transfer from personal to business, but not the other way, so it might be worth checking out).
My IHG acquisition was strange; I actually thought I was on the Chase naughty list and apped to see what the letter would say; a couple of days later I was approved for $9k at the lowest APR. Lesson learned... if you're going to app expecting to get a denial letter, make sure you actually want the card in the event it's approved.
(Note that it turned out OK in the end, since when I got the Amazon Visa a few months later it was only approved for $500. I was able to move some (and eventually all) of the IHG to make the Amazon usable.)
