Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

Hello,

Can you move available credit between Amex accounts and leave the donor account with $500 ? or less than $1000 ?

I tried recently and it wasn't approved and when I asked the rep told me you have to leave $1000 at least in the donor account

what's interesting is that according to the online page where you move limits you can actually leave the donor with only $500

I did manage to move limits before but I left the donor with $1000 not $500

My question is has anyone been able to move limits between cards and leave the donor card with $500 ?

Thanks,

Re: Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

I don't know if this is something related to the card that limits how much you can move out or the new standard across all cards.

Re: Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

YMMV between speaking with someone and doing it online.  All of my accounts and DW's accounts allow this down to $500 online (and I did reduce my Blue down to $500 after moving almost all of its limit to SPG).  Keep in mind that you can only reallocate credit lines once every 30 days with Amex.

Not to steal the thread, but does anyone know if you can move limits from consumer cards to business cards?  Currently my consumer & business cards are under seperate online accounts; if the answer to the previous question is yes; then how would I go about doing this?

I'm looking to reallocate $10k from my personal SPG to a newly opend Blue Business Plus account that only has a $2k limit.

Re: Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

Yes, AMEX allows moving limits from your personal cards to business cards but not the other way.

Re: Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

I moved limits just yesterday and left the donor card with $500. I'd planned to close the donor card but have a couple of benefits I wanted to use. So, now I'm going to call back and just close it.

More than enough credit.

Re: Moving limit between Amex accounts. Question

It is most likely YMMV.

In 2017 I tried to move limits around in $10k chunks. “Systems unavailable “ or some similar screen. Several tries.
Went to $5k per move, no issues. Took a couple of steps to accomplish, but all on line.

The lowest amount that can be left is probably a similar variable per cardholder, for reasons only clear to AMEX.
High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727
April 2018 $18k on $344k 5% util EQ 806 TU 810 EX 812
Jan 2019 $7.6k on $360k EQ 832 TU 839 EX 831
March 2021 $33k on $312k EQ 796 TU 798 EX 801

Click on "Account Services" on top and then click on "Transfer Available Credit to Another Card"
