Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

I got the first person, she put me on hold etc...then ended up transferring me to someone else, who just kept saying wait 45 days re-apply...so i just said "well...ok, goodbye."

BTW, when you call that number you provided, it asks you to put in your 16 digit account number immediately...i waited and it went to an operator and they wanted the same info anyway...So i dono if I did something wrong or something?

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Oh yeah, the wait!  Or, I push #, 0, #, 0, # until I get someone -- same thing.  Their script initially prompts for an account number as they are trained to say, but after you've explained the situation, they should have been able to investigate and escalate if needed.  You came across one of those lazy people who don't want to be working so close to Christmas.  You can call as many times as you'd like and request to be escalated to a Senior Specialist for review.  That 45-day window is the timeframe they tell customers to wait before re-applying or the system will instantly deny you.  Keep trying to get them to do their job.

Yeah I almost wanted to say "Wheres the christmas spirit? scrooge..." lol. I mean it was like talking to a condescending brick wall.

I guess i could call back on the 26th or something? Maybe they will be feeling a bit more jolly or will it be too late then?

Naaaah, financial institutions are open just a few hours... like half-day tomorrow Dec 24th.  I'd give it another try then.  If no-go, then count 45-days from your application date and Do Not re-apply or use their pre-qualify during that time or the 45-days will start over.

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Oh wait, using the pre-approval thing more than once in 45 days effects the outcome of applications?

I did it once, and didnt apply and did some research, then I did it last night the same way and applied for real and it declined it...so could that be why? I thought it was just a soft inquiry and wouldnt matter at all?

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

It was weird the way they explained it to me.  The original application does a hard inquiry on your credit report and stamps that original date.  Each subsequent application will be instantly denied as it's looking at the same report in their system.  The unfortunate part is... the 45-day window Date has just been updated.  The same goes for Pre-qualify.  So for example, if you're at Day 30 and do an app or pre-qualify, the window starts back at day 1.  8 out of 10 representatives explained this to me in that fashion.  2 said the date doesn' t change, but had no proof -- they just assumed.

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

So the pre-qualify only effects what cards will come up in the pre-qualify window then? Not any actual full credit card application with them?

I hope i didnt just burn a inquiry even though im actually otherwise approved... ;-(

oh well, i guess i'll only have 1 across the CRA's  now which is still not too bad...

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

Hey, so i called back again today...talked to first guy...seemed very baffled, like I was speaking russian to him or something and transferred me to someone else...

that person said he would look at some offers...came up with the Capital One Classic Platinum Mastercard. Said he would resubmit/apply for it and would only count as one pull for all this, so i gave him my info and he did it. Put on hold, came back and said they will need further info, and would be getting something in the mail within the next two weeks.

He was nice, and said might be a problem because im 22 but that doesnt mean its declined, they just need further info.  So i dono what that could be? Any idea?

Re: Multiple Capital One Accounts Into One?

why didnt you pull your real score and "report" from here, myFICO, to be prepared with a real score in hand?  No one can answer what they are sending you, you are just going to have to wait.  If Capital One didnt approve you immediately over the phone, then odds are its a denial coming in the mail.  But hopefully its something to confirm your address or even a card!
