From a Citi webpage describing the Rewards+ card:
10 percent Points Back
Get 10% Points Back when you redeem, up to the first 100,000 points redeemed per year. That means if you redeem 15,000 points, you get 1,500 back. It’s that simple.2
So if I value points at 1cpp, I think that means that this feature of the Rewards+ card can get me up to $100 back/year (100k x 0.01cpp x 0.1 boost from Rewards+). So then I was thinking:
should I (and could I) downgrade another Citi card to a second Rewards+ so I can get another $100? Even if I got 2 Rewards+ cards, would that even work?
In my situation, I think this is more speculation than anything. But I think this is realistic for some of the more hardcore Citi-maxers. To hit that cap for a single Rewards+ card (100k points in a year), I guess here are a few scenarios that would hit that. I'm unlikely to spend enough to hit the cap under any scenario like this.
I've thought of this too. I don't think it will work. It would work for a P2 scenario where you each are the primary card holders of your own R+ and DC/CCs but I don't think it would work for one person. The reason I believe this is your DC and CC are already 'linked' just by having them, no action needed. You then apply for a R+ card and you need to manually link it (by calling in) with your DC/CC. If you could have two R+ cards (not sure you can), I don't think you could link two R+ cards with your already linked R+/DC/CC and I don't think you could ask them to unlink your DC from your CC and then ask that one R+ is linked with DC and one with CC. Plus, even at 2.22% CB, I consider the DC worthless and I don't use it since I have other 3 and 4% non-cat cards. Also, the most you can earn from one CC at 5% capped at $500 spend per month, is $300 CB ($333.33 actually) per year, far below the allowable $1000 CB you can get the 10% boost on. And that's if you max out the $500 spend every month. Even if you had two CC cards, the most CB you'll earn per year is $600 ($666.66 actually), still below the $1000 allotted. Yes, I guess if one were a big DC spender, they could reach over $1000 CB per year but, again, at only 2.22% CB, you're doing it wrong!
That's cool, thanks!! Great writeup.
What 4% non-cat card do you have? Smartly?

Correct, Smartly.
Sorry my sig is so overdue for an update.
Curious, for those of you who have 2 CCs and R+, can you link them all and have both CCs get the 10% boost?
(I know I have 2 CCs in my sig but one is mine with mrs. p. as an AU, and vice versa, so I don't have 2 CCs in my name to answer my question)
