My FICO Score Is Now 618, Which Starter Credit Cards(Unsecured) Should I Apply For?

My FICO Score Is Now 618, Which Starter Credit Cards(Unsecured) Should I Apply For?

By Starter Credit Cards, I mean unsecured.

I'm hoping to speak with members who were able to obtain the Discover It(Unsecured), Capital One Platinum(Unsecured), Capital One Quick Silver One, Citi Double Cash, or any other bottom teir unsecured credit cards with a FICO score of 618 or lower.

I know a 618 FICO score isn't good, but just seven months ago I had a 440 FICO score.

I want unsecured credit cards, especially since my Capital One Platinum secured gave me a $300 CLI.

Please list any unsecured credit cards that would accept a 618 FICO score.

Or am I pushing my luck?

I don't think the Double Cash is a bottom tier card.

But, regardless, I think you may be able to get the Platinum unsecured at 618 (unless they have some thing in regards to having both a secured and unsecured of the same type)

I would go for that over any of the annual fee cap one cards.

I would hardly consider Citi DC or Discover It bottom tier cards, honestly I would stick with Capital One. You probably have a decent shot at Capital One QS One, if you can beat the annual fee with enough cash back. Otherwise, the unsecured platinum is a good bet. 618 is a little low for Citi or Disco imho. However, very nice job getting it up to that from 440! Very impressive! Keep up the good work and you’ll be rolling in prime cards in no time!

618 is way too low for Citi... I got rejected today for DC with 662 EX and 690 TU (they pulled both).

Check preapprovals for Capital One but 618 isn’t good enough for Disco.

NFCU is a good place to try if you have military affiliation.

I'm not sure where the Citi DC thing came from, as I don't know of anyone approved for that product with a 618 FICO score.

I'd say Discover and Cap One are your best bets.  If you feel however that your scores may be (say) 50 points higher 6 months from now, I'd say hold off on apping until that time to improve your approval chances.

I'm sorry, when I stated "Bottom Teir."

I meant that particular issuer's easiest unsecured card to obtain.

Hit the discover prequalify site. My wife was approved last week for the IT with a 621 FICO 8 (think they pulled EX not sure tho). She also has several open collections that haven’t updated as paid yet.

Ollo or Petal might be some alternatives for unsecured cards. You might get Ollo to show up on CK, and I believe Petal has a prequalify link through Mint. I looked into Ollo a few months ago and they have fairly decent terms considering their target audience.

No worries man, you’re all good. I’m a little protective of discover because I love my discover card and I like to pretend it’s a super prime card lol. I’m sure that’s where other members are coming from too. You know what you might want to try though, is a card from Elan Financial Services. Many CUs contract their CCs through them, and they take your relationship with your bank into account too. I got one with ZERO credit history, and they’re actually a really great lender. All US customer service, great rewards, extended warranties, etc, and they are one of the few lenders that STILL HAVE the best value guarantee. I love my Elan card. Just something to consider.

I was approved for the Ollo Rewards in the lower 600's. The Experian app said it was a match for me. After some research I went for it and was approved for a $500 limit. There is no AF and you get 2% on Grocerie Stores, Gas and Drug Stores. They say after 5 on time payments they will auto CLI from $500-$3500. I use it exclusively for groceries. It's work to manage due to the low credit limit but after only 2 statements I've racked up $40 of cash back. So I can't complain. Ok I'm done with the Ollo commercial, now back to our regularly scheduled programing.

The DC has strict UW actually. Simplicity is easiest to get with them.
