Wow I'm jealous of all of you. I've had my BOA Plat Plus Visa for a year now and I've never missed a payment or went over the limit or even got close to the limit and I tried for a CLI on the net and only got $200.00!!! That's it!!! Then I tried that backdoor number that someone posted on here and the rep was nice and she went over a few baddies with me on my credit report and then declined my request for an increase. Smiley Sad Just goes to show kids, every BOA CLI story doesnt end with a happy ending LOL. Oh well. Congrats to you all.

I have this same problem with Juniper/Barclays Bank. I have never received an increase from them in 2 years. I only hold on to the account because it is one of my oldest. It seems different CCC"s are better/or worse for certain people. Go figure!

Re: My First BofA CLI

Cheddar (or anyone else who can provide feedback) - do you ever carry a balance or PIF?  I received my card the same time as you via reconn, but only for $1000.  I want to attempt a CLI but not sure if I should wait longer. Does BofA try to match existing limits or base their CLI's on alternate info?  My HSBC card is now $1800 (my highest limit) but wont be reported until this month.  The only other higher limit I have is $1300.  I do not have any recent baddies.  I am currently at $400 of my $1000 limit with BofA.

To recap:

Applied for BofA Rewards Amex on April 9.  Approved instantly for $2500.
Product change to BofA Accelerated Rewards Amex on April 23.

Today, I requested a CLI.  I thought I might be pushing the envelope asking them for too much too soon, but I've heard nothing but success stories around here regarding BofA CLIs, and no AA as a result, so I figured, why not.

I decided to call in instead of doing it online.  I also left the amount open and just requested whatever I'm eligible for.

Had to answer some questions from a credit analyst about my income, how long I've been doing what I do for a living, why would I like a CLI, etc etc.  Put me on hold for a few minutes, came back, and told me they were giving me a CLI to $7500.

The rep was even apologetic that he couldn't give me more.  He said I should give them a little more history and then they'll see about taking me higher.

How's that for a dreary Monday afternoon?

Re: My First BofA CLI

I got my Plat Plus Visa in November 07 with a 5k limit. I did a BT to just under 90% util (yikes!) and I've carried a balance ever since. I paid down the util to just over 50% and requested a CLI to 10k in April this year & got it, and BT'd some more to about 75% util. Last month I paid the balance down to about 48% util.  Yesterday I crossed my fingers and hit the luv button for 15k and got it. I don't know what they base their CLIs on, but I can say that I have a Penfed 20k CL and Suzuki HSBC 18k CL, so the 15k CL is nice but not my highest. I've also been a BAC customer (checking/savings) for 15 years so I don't know if that helps too.

Well, I guess I haven't gone back to update this post like I should have.

Turned out my product change was declined because I don't have enough history with them yet (after they told it me it was already a done deal and I could expect to receive my card in the mail).  (Fair point, but I don't like the way they went about informing me that it was declined, which was not at all.  The only reason I found out was because I called up after several weeks to say "Where's the new card you promised me?")

The CLI still stands, though.  To answer your question, PurpleHaze, I always PIF all of my cards.  I haven't shown my BofA Amex nearly as much use as it deserves.  The first month I had it, I think I only charged about $200 on it, then the second month I charged around $2K.  Amex Delta SkyMiles had a promotion going for the month of June (double SkyMiles on all purchases), so that was my go-to card last month, and as a result, the BofA Amex only saw about $7 worth of action.

Sorry, BofA!  I promise I'll try to use you more in the future.

Edit to answer your question about CLI more directly:  When I received my CLI from $2500 to $7500, the largest CL I had was my WaMu card at $15K, but it wasn't reporting yet.  I had heard that BofA likes to match your highest limit, so I told the credit analyst about the limit on my WaMu card and explained to him why it wasn't on my reports yet.  I don't know if it's a coincidence that the amount he approved me for ($7500) is half the amount of that largest CL which wasn't reporting yet, although $7500 was larger than any reporting CL I had at the time, so I can't complain at all.

Thanks Cheddar.  Does BofA have the same method of auto approval that I have seen others post about.  Meaning, if I request online I can enter an amount or if I am not eligible or if my credit acct is too new a form will appear?

Re: My First BofA CLI

No, everyone has to fill out the form, I believe, but it doesn't result in a hard.  You can also leave the amount requested blank and it will approve you for whatever amount you are approved for.  BofA only rarely pulls a hard inquiry for CLI, and even then they always inform you first.
