That's interesting--I'll pass that on to my 22-year-old, who has the serious student loans. I'm going to drag my $1606 balance out until I'm ready to recycle my aging Accord. I want to keep one installment loan going, besides the mortgage. So I'll just keep sending them my $50/ month, LOL.

Yeah they don't charge you the 3% fee, but they may charge you interest right away... since it wont count as a balance transfer, it will be a cash advance. Unless they offered you 0% on cash advances, which I doubt. Just double check Smiley Happy

hmmmm...maybe my plan won't work! The promo was for "BTs and convenience checks" posted on the account. I was assuming if I deposited the money via a convenience check that I would not get the fee and be able to use 0 % APR offer...hmmm....

Another reason to love USAA:

I just got off the phone with a CSR, who said "You can deposit your balance transfer checks into your USAA savings account fee-free and get 0% APR for 12 months"!!!!

This is very exciting! I think I'm going to put 5k towards my student loans and 5K in a fixed 5.20% 9-month CD...

Again, I love USAA!

Hmmm,

Before I apply for the Amex, I think I will apply for the USAA Visa. I already have them for a checking and savings account, but I use BofA, (only because I like to be able to walk into a branch if I need to). I am also thinking about switching over to their insurance. I am hearing raves about these guys. I only needed to wait until my scores come up higher before I apply with them. When I was a private, my fico scores werent high enough to qualify for a denial letter from them! We will see in about a month!

I think all they have is the MC and Amex, although those are good enough for me. The Amex has the same buyer protections that a regular Amex does. I don't think that there's a nickel's worth of difference between MC and Visa in general anyway, although I know some individual cards have very nice deals. I can't remember the time I saw someone who took one, and not the other.

Your scores are better than mine, and they pull EQ. (They say they give me goodies because I've been with them for 28 years.)

Re: My Last Card: USAA MC! --I hope...

stpn2me- For USAA scores count for little it seems. Customer loyalty and the amount of products you have with them really makes the world of difference (e.g. bank accounts, loans, etc.).Believe - I have pretty good credit, but my step-mom, who has been with them for 10 years and has a score in low 600s gets much better offers and APRs then I do. I've only been with them 3 months.

Personally, I would recommend the Amex for all the coverages and the MC as a secondary option. The only reason I got the MC is becuase of the great 0 % APR and I already have two Amexs...good luck!

P.S. Their car insurance and CS rocks! In three months, I have opened a checking acc, savings acc, Roth IRA, car insurance, renters insurance, and one CC with them...I'm addicted!

Hooah! Greetings from afghanistan!

pfriverap,

I plan on getting the insurance now that I have better scores. I have had the checking and savings accounts for about a year now, but my pay goes to BofA. I will switch that too...

You are telling me I might have the chance to get a USAA credit card and IT WILL BE AMEX TOO? Ahh, the luck of it all! I will apply in Dec when I get back to the states......I will post when I do!

Re: My Last Card: USAA MC! --I hope...

My paychecks (two jobs) go to USAA, too. I have checking (with the direct deposit), a Roth IRA, MC, AmEx, and a HELOC with them, and if I can ever lasso DH in on a weekend, we're looking at auto and homeowner's. I'm on my youngest's checking and savings (she has her own $1K CL MC), my middle has her own checking, savings, MC and AmEx, and I finally got my oldest signed up. He's looking at auto and renter's insurance, and maybe a Roth. I'm a Federal employee, and we have a killer TSP retirement system --that's about the only significant thing that I don't do with USAA.

I looked at their website the other day, and they have a whole section on help for their members who were affected by the southern California wildfires --waived payments for 3 months, no bounced check fees, 0% for this, very low % for that. They're good people.

Glad to hear you're coming home soon. Stay safe, and God bless!

Re: My Last Card: USAA MC! --I hope...

OK, so 3 questions with USAA credit cards:

1) What is the minimum FICO score to get approved?
2) Which CRA do they pull for inquiries?
3) How long after a discharged bk do you need to wait to get approved?

Thanks.
