Discover It Student declined her but offered her a Discover Secured Card. Have not tried Citi
Also from what i read about the chase freedom which i been trying to get and got this year a year after i got my first Credit card is Chase either wants you as your first CC or a year or 2 under your belt ... I would try the chase freedom as well
Secured route for sure if nothing else. If you have any connections within your family that might be part of Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) definitely look into them and try with them. They are very very very good at helping people get on there feet as far as getting credit estabilished!

I'm surprised of the Cap1 denial.Did you guys try any recons?
It created a file. Her myFico is 638 She was told to wait for the letter to recon
Hmm. What's your UTIL like on that CC?
It is high. Do you think that is the problem?
Yes most credit card companies don't like to see high utilization.

Very much so. I'd actually recommend removing her as an AU and disputing it off her CRs. If she can keep her UTIL at <10% on the secured card, she'd be in a much better credit position in 6 months to a year from now.

That's even better. You'd probably even see a score boost once UTIL gets below 10%, so you have many good reasons to do it, if you can! Good luck in the process!
Got the denial letter in the mail today for my daughter...it states. - Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter income is insufficient for requested credit. So she just did a back door recon...adding that she is a student which she didn't mark in the original application. Hope all goes well!!!
