It looks like I would make $25-30 more in cashback if I keep the Freedom open, but my question then is $25-30 worth it.

$25 - 30 worth it?

Of course.

Open positive tradeline reporting worth it?

Of course.

Tradeline adding onto your overall AAOA for more time worth it?

Of course.

A card that if you use that cashback to transfer to CSP helping you save on anything you book along with the extra 20% worth it?
Definitely.

I have both the More and the Freedom. The More covers some areas that the Freedom doesn't and vice versa. Fortunately, I've had the positive banking experience with Chase in having a checking, so it gives me a lot more options for getting cashback as well. It's all a matter of opinion in the end and what you think is best for you, but to me, it's worth keeping it open.

Looks like I will keep the Freedom open just to use solely on a 5% category thats not covered by Discover. My CSP will be my primary card and my Discover will be my cash back card. I will allow my Freedom to help my age of accounts. Now if only my Citi dividend could get some love. I have no real use for it anymore now that I got better cards. Looks like small charges once in a while will have to do when it's not being sock drawered.

If CSP is going to be your primary card I would really recommend you open a Chase checking account (there are $200 sign-up bonuses out there) and pair it with your Freedom. Then use Freedom as your primary (CSP on dining and travel expenses over $10, Freedom for everything else), not Discover More since Freedom doesn't have that first $3k at 0.25% stuff and you can combine UR points with your CSP to maximize rewards. I know your mind is probably made up, but just food for thought.

I too neglect my Dividend card, even though it's a MasterCard World Elite. They never seem to have very good 5% categories.

Bribro, you are very knowledgable and I thank you for that. Your advice is most certainly correct and makes the most sense intuitively, however I will not be going this direction. I will not bank with Chase, just because I prefer not to bank with a company that I have a credit card with. It might sound stupid to some, but it is just that personal preference. I love my current bank now and am in the midst of opening another checking account with a bank that is local and gives a decent rate on checking. What I will be doing is obviously taking your advice and using my CSP when the Freedom or More does not have 5% cashback on Restaurants. I will also be using it for any travel expenses I have. From there I will then use my Discover More for the categories it has each 3 months along with my Freedom. If they share the category I will use my Freedom as I can transfer it over to the CSP. Last I will use my CSP for all other purchases to get 1 point which is 1 % instead of Discovers .25%. Oh and I almost forgot when I can I will use ShopDiscover to rack up the Cashback if I do any online shopping.

I completely agree about Citi's rotating categories. They are horrible in my mind. They are not diverse enough, nor do they compete with Chase or Discover for that matter. I will be sock drawering my Citi as one card has to come out of the wallet and it gets used the least. Hopefully in a month I can see if I can be upgraded to the World Mastercard, but I never have had much luck with Citi.

I'm intrigued.

Why wouldn't you want to have a credit card with someone you bank with?

That was my question ;-)

Why not? I'm just interested in your reason why.

Your plan makes total sense given that you don't want to bank with Chase; I misunderstood you at first thinking Discover More would be your default card for 1% purchases. Another benefit of using the CSP as your default card for non-5% categories is that you're really getting a 1.07% earn rate due to the 7% yearly bonus. It's not much, but why not. Also be sure to check the UR Mall for online shopping and compare the bonus rates. 5x in UR points is worth more than 5x through ShopDiscover since those UR points are worth more than $0.01 when you transfer to travel partners.

If you want to upgrade your Dividend to a World MC, call the main CSR line during work hours and immediately ask for an "account manager." They have more power and tend to be more friendly. It might be a tough sell if your card has limited activity though.

Re: My first Visa Signature... guess what it is before you click to read

Frugal Rican it may sound strange to you but I completely understand this guy in not wanting a credit card with a company you bank with. My checking account is with BoA and I don't have much interest in their credit cards so I understand. lol

I too am looking forward to getting my CSP. Have the United card right now but decided I don't really want it. I also sometimes fly with southwest and want to earn as much points as possible so when the AF is due on my United card I will cancel and go with the CSP instead.

I have been debating whether to go with the Venture or CSP and I want to use my rewards for aspirational things like first class flights and upgrades and not just a simple travel rebate so that was the kicker for the CSP.

Can't wait to get that beautiful card in my hand. Heart

Re: My first Visa Signature... guess what it is before you click to read

I just received my card and it feels AMAZING... plus it was a bonus calling the sapphire preferred line and talking to a CSR who was knowledgeable and very kind when activating my card. I'm hoping most of my hotel/plane is free in the future after racking up some points!

Carbon44 whom did you speak to at Chase abou the product change from an Amaozn Visa to the Freedom? I called and asked to do a product change and of course they stated it cannot be done without an actual application for the Freedom being submitted.
