NASA Balance Transfer Typical Timeframe?

Submitted a BT last week to another Credit Union to pay down the balance prior to the statement ending date. I know they all say "Please allow up to 10 business days for a balance transfer to be processed" but from my experience, all other BTs I have done have been completed within 3-5 business days.
Does anyone know how long this takes and if so do you know if they send funds via snail mail or electronically?
If funds don't get there in time prior to my statement ending date and I have to pay off on my own, is there a way to cancel?
Appreciate the help!

Re: NASA Balance Transfer Typical Timeframe?

IIRC any BTs I did with NASA were always with convenience checks.  (The first offer I got for them was a x% for life offer which led me to these forums.)  Many credit unions still mail checks, especially to smaller FIs, and many credit unions seem to take a few days to actually post those mailed payments, although if you look daily when it finally appears you'll often see it credited with a date a few days prior (likely the daye it was received).  10 business days doesn't seem at all unreasonable.

There wouldn't be a way to cancel, but you could wait until it credits causing a negative balance, then request a refund from the other FI and pay off the BT from NASA.  Unless this is an expiring promotional offer (i.e. Amazon no interest if paid in 12 months, but if you have even $1 left at the end of the 12 months you get dinged for retroactive interest back to day 1, like $250 of back interest on a $1000 purchase you paid $999 of), is it worth bothering?  Might be better to just make your minimum payment if the dates are cutting it close, and worst case pay a few days of interest?  Even if it's like 25% APR, that's less than $0.70 a day per $1000.

Thank you for the response. If there is proof the BT check was received 3 days prior to the statement ending date and they issue the statement without it showing credited, is there any chance they would rectoactively correct this on both the statement and what is reported to the credit bureaus?
I don't see how this would be handled any different than a regular payment that was mailed to them which is credited the date they receive it other than it being a larger amount which they may want to wait to update until it clears.

Re: NASA Balance Transfer Typical Timeframe?

The statement itself wouldn't be updated if a payment posted after it was generated.  It's unlikely that they would automatically resubmit the current balance to the CRAs, and I not sure what their policies are on mid-cycle reporting upon request.
