Nasa was a SP for membership and cc. I applied today. Instant Approval on both.

SP or HP doesn't make a difference. They see the exact same thing with either.

They give 30K too! That was what the excitement of NASA was all about
hmm maybe I'll apply (after NFCU)
I have about 760 FIC0 accross the board 0 bads and 8% ut.
How do they get around doing the HP.. to see your full report.
This is the fist I have heard of this

A creditor probably sees the same information with a hard or soft, it's just a question as to whether the inquiry is visible to others. By the "rules" any credit seeking should result in an HP, as information to other potential creditors. But more and more lenders to soft pull CLIs, an Amex denial for an existing card holder is soft, shopping cart trick (and Nasa) allow a new tradeline with just a SP etc.
I'm gonna have to say otherwise here. Yesterday I applied for the NASA CC with frozen files with the assumption its gonna be a SP. And the app was outright declined due to the freeze. They sent me an email later to unfreeze my file and call back within 5 days. I first joined around April/May 2014 by opening a Share Savings account, then 2weeks ago I added the Premier Echecking account and switched my payroll direct deposit to them. I personally called Lending Services to verify if there will be a pull and they said yes. So for those who can't afford a HP at this time please tread carefully with NASA cos it's kinda sticky. Not to mention they SP'ed me like 3times in the past month alone.

Lots of people have posted in here that they only SP you at the time of initial membership and that if you apply later on it will be a HP. My approval was a HP because it was 4 months after I joined. It still remains that if you join and apply for a credit card at the same time both membership and the cc application are SPs.

Irish, you are right in saying that the same things can be viewed from an HP/SP. I worked as a charge off agent and pre-legal sepcialist at Discover Card for 5 years. I pulled reports DAILY and saw the same information that our new accounts teams or CLI teams would use to pull reports for granting of credit. It's the same thing. I also know that the SP's I pulled were entirely accessible by Customer Service, CLI Team, basically anyone who had a need to see a credit report at Discover Card. Conversely, I used SP's pulled by other teams at Discover to conduct my charge off/pre legal business. It's all the same stuff.
If anyone is wondering, I sometimes pulled credit reports multiple in the course of a week on a charge off cardmember (using an SP function) (and I didn't do this out of spite, I was usually doing it because I was following an aspect of their report very closely and wanted to monitor it!) I also could access older credit reports that would be stored in our system if I was doing some type of analytical/historical comparison.
Sorry it's a little off topic but maybe it sheds a tiny bit of light on what we do with these reports.
