NFCU Card Questions

I have a checking account with NFCU but wanted to wait to apply for credit card since my Equifax FICO is only 630 but after a bunch of payments hit it should go up to around 650 or so but I was wondering If I apply for the Flagship card and get declined and then apply for the Cash Rewards (assuming I wouldve been approved if I applied for Cash Rewards first), will that be an auto decline just because I was declined for the Falagship card. Or do they have a counter offer upon declining like Sorry you do not qualify for the Flagship card, but how about this card instead?

If so I may just play it safe and apply for the Cash Rewards first since I doubt they would approve both at the same time.

It'd be a hard pull for each, but with your scores, and knowing ONLY that about your profile, I'd say as long as there aren't other standout baddies, CashRewards is a pretty safe bet. That's about where I was when I got approved for it. For Flagship? Not sure... BUT you can apply for all the things as long as you don't mind the hard pull. For example, when I joined I immediately applied for CLOC and CashRewards. Denied on CLOC but they gifted me with $1400 on CashRewards. That has recently grown amazingly well and I'm now in with the CLOC at $3000 as well.

Re: NFCU Card Questions

For me they pulled TU for membership and for my credit card. CLOC was an EQ pull. Others have reported similarly, so you may want to look at your TU report as well

Re: NFCU Card Questions

TU is even higher at 670 But from all the posts Ive seen here NFCU uses TU to open the checking account but EQ for credit cards

Re: NFCU Card Questions

FWIW they used to mostly pull EQ for credit cards (in late 2015 they pulled EQ for my own) but these days they seem to usually pull TU for new credit cards, and EQ for CLIs.

For the CLOC they almost exclusively pull EQ for both the initial approval and subsequent CLIs, but they have been known to make exceptions so even that is YMMV.

As far as I know, they consistently pull TU for membership.

Re: NFCU Card Questions

I just opened a NFCU card on 3/15 after having an account with them for 1 week.

They pulled TU for membership.

On 3/15 I did an online chat and asked about approval requirements between Cash rewards and GoCash and was told the critera is the same.

When I asked about which report gets pulled they responded they use Transunion.

Transunion was the only pull for my GoCash approval.

TU Fico 8 - 615 55% util on $1401 balances - Approved for $1300 17.xx%
