I'm three statements into my secured NFCU card and thinking about graduation already. Yeah, I know, patience. Based on multiple posts I've read, it seems like it is pretty standard to graduate to a $2000 CL. I started out with $1500 on the secured card, quickly moved up to $3000 and last week maxed out to $5000. When I finally graduate, will they match the $5000 or drop me back down to $2000?
I am at 5k too and have had my card 3 months. I sent in a secure message asking that same question. What will happen to my credit line above the 2k that everyone seems to graduate to.
I am waiting for a reply and I will let you know when I have a reply.
You will be bumped up to $2K and the money that you used to secure your credit will be deposited back in to your savings account. If $2K isn't enough then you can request a CLI with them. I graduated in April, after 9 months, to $2K and then I requested a CLI that bumped me up to $4K.
You said bumped up to $2k but Andy and I both have secured for $5k so it seems like a bump down except for having an unsecured vs secured.
The difference is secured vs unsecured in your case. You secured the card with $5K of your own vs the bank providing you with $2K unsecured. You'll get the $5K back and you'll have a limit of $2K. Only way to know for sure is once your card is unsecured.
Yeah, I know. It just sounds funny calling it a bump up. Coincidentally, I got an email from NFCU this morning saying it's almost time to review my account. Fingers crossed.
@NeverTubetheGoose if you don't mind sharing how many months after you opened the secured card did you get the email and what was the gist of the email ?
I am going on my 3rd statement and have not received an email yet.
@Andy77 I opened my account on May 21. I got the email on Sept 4 and my 4th statement closed on Sept 5
