NFCU...IS IT WORTH IT?

Sitting here reading post and after all this time since March of trying to fix my credit it just dawned on me that my baby bro is in the Navy. HELLO!

Now my questions is, my scores are in my sig. Is it worth me when my six mos for my two secured cc roll around in september should I app for cc with NFCU? I do hv a bk13 discharge that will fall off in October. If that matters and one coll on my report that will fall off next year if I don't decide to pay the $200 and have it fall of immediately based on CRTP.

Ant thoughts?

Re: NFCU...IS IT WORTH IT?

I would say it is most definitely worth it. When other lenders have turned my down in the past, Navy has never said no to me. They are truely the best and most generous Lender around. If you take care of them, they will take care of you as well.

I would also get while the getting is good, I am not sure how true it is but there are rumors that big credit unions (like NFCU) are going to be taxed to where they will be on par with regular banks as far as credit limits and lending standards. I have only read this in a few threads but have not done any research.

Re: NFCU...IS IT WORTH IT?

I would apply if I were you.  No need to wait.  As stated on many, many, many, different post, NFCU is very generous as well as forgiving therefore offer good opportunities to enhance your credit file which will help to increase your credit score. It's been suggested that setting up checking and direct deposit if possible could be even more beneficial when looking for new credit/CLI.  Either way, as some of the greats here have said, "be good to them and they will be good to you".  Good Luck!

BTW:  I applied when my scores were high 500's/low 600's and was approved.  I've had the card for less than a year and already received 3 CLI.

OAN-NFCU will probably HP me just for providing advice to app Smiley Very Happy

Re: NFCU...IS IT WORTH IT?

Definitely worth it!

I was under the impression that the service member needed to sign up before I could join which delayed me from joining sooner. When I found out my DH does not need to be a member, I called quick! I was approved for membership over the phone immediately. One the same call, I applied for the credit card and was told 3-5 days.

I logged in that night and saw my approved credit limit of $5000. I called back to have it switched to the Flagship Rewards and asked for another $2000. I was given both with no issues. I applied the next weekend for the NavCheck for the max of $15K. I was conditionally approved the next day which meant to send in 2 paystubs and my bank statement. Just received the approval today. $22K in credit added in 2 weeks from NFCU!

Compare that to CapOne giving me $1000 instant approval on their card in the same period. Smiley Indifferent

Scores not that stellar - 668 EQ, 712 TU, EX 651, good personal income. Chap 7 BK discharged in 1/2009

NFCU you will give you a chance. Just be good back to them!

Best of luck!

Re: NFCU...IS IT WORTH IT?

I went ahead and applied with a rep, got the 3-5 mssg. I couldnt apply online because I only got the savings acct and it seems when setting up online banking you have to submit a request to do that also which requires you to wait for something to come in the mail. Anyway, I will call tomorrow to see if they have any additional status. Hoping for at least $1000. If not approved I will wait until Oct when my bk13 falls off and the last coll on my EQ report I probably will have decided to get rid of too by then.
