@DoppelgangerD wrote:I just read today on Reddit, someone posted that the Verizon credit card gives 4% cashback as grocery at WM.
However that could mean online, or just at specific location(s).
Of course the Walmart credit card itself still gives 5% CB for online purchases, including curbside and in-store pickup.
BTW, I doubt that any Amex card will code as grocery at WM.
My BCP Amex specifically excludes WM and Target for grocery spend.
Again though, if a specific WM might code differently, it's possible if the specific card itself doesn't exclude WM on its terms.
Took one for the Team and bought $40 of groceries from WM+ on the Verizon Visa, just got the Verizon Statement today : 1% All other purchases CB
Oh well, it was worth a shot
Was that in-store though? I think I read it should be inside the store, but I'm just going from vague memory, and I don't know if your supposed to use the physical card or what.

Did it online.

FWIW, it seems most Synchrony cards code Walmart as grocery if you shop inside the store; my Carecredit Mastercard and Venmo Visa both do as well.
In my experience WM grocery pickup or delivery no longer codes as grocery (grocery pickup once did, but WM made a change).
I don't have the Verizon Visa, but from what I've read it behaves similarly to other Synchrony cards in this regard.
Back to the topic of this thread, I have no idea about how the NFCU More Rewards Amex codes Walmart. If their redemption wasn't $50 minimum and $50 increments (!) I might be tempted to give it a try, but with so many other options (many better) I just can't justify the experiment.
if one has card from Red FCU https://www.redfcu.org/personal/credits-cards/visa-signature/
do not care walmart code whether it's gocery or discount store because it has both in it.
I have the More Rewards Amex and a Walmart near by. I'll go and see how it codes. Good research and knowledge for myself as well. I typically use my BofA CCC for online/app purchases and a "catchall" for in-store at walmart.
I'll report back.
EDIT: Made a purchase today 5/15/24 - at the top of the receipt is says "WM Supercenter". I bought actual groceries (not that, that matters) so we'll see how NFCU codes the purchase in a day or so.
RESULTS:
So for my specific WalMart, buying actual groceries and using self checkout withOUT using the Walmart app. My More Rewards coded the purchase as "General Merchandise" and earned 1%.
Your Walmart may code differently. The only way to know for sure, is to try it.
I know this is old. My assumption before testing it, Walmart Neighborhood stores will work similarly to other Amex other grocery rewards cards (Gold, BCP and BCE). The fact Amex says specificcally exclude Walmart must mean Super stores and not these Walmart grocery stores. I tested the above cards and they rewarded me the grocery category
BCP-6%
Gold-4x
BCE-3%
