NFCU Question

Recently approved for their rewards card @ 2500cl. Thinking about adding my wife to the account to help her in her rebuilding and see if her additional income would allow for a higher cl. Any thoughts? (sidenote- her EQ FICO is about 100 points lower than mine)

Re: NFCU Question

First off, congrats on the approval.

In my opinion, I don't think her income is going to matter much in getting an increase. They first look at your credit profile and if that meets their criteria, then they'll look at your income. Of course, it never hurts to ask and I encourage you to do so if that's what you really want but I think you should establish a relationship with them first and then request the CLI. They're very generous with credit limits. My Platinum Visa has a $25,000 credit line. This is among my highest limit cards.

Thanks for the response. I just switched my direct deposit over to them and want to use them as my primary bank. Problem for me is that there are no branches is Saint Louis so everything has to be done electronically. They have been awesome to work with so far.

Re: NFCU Question

No branches where I reside either but I'm fine with banking electronically. I have the Platinum Visa, a checking account, a $15K line of credit and a $30K+ personal loan with Navy. EXTREMELY generous as you'll find out after you build some history with them. They're truly a fantastic credit union so you'll enjoy it.

Re: NFCU Question

I had done alot of research on NFCU and they seem to be very good. They are open to doing business with those of us who are rebuilding after bumps in the road. I opened the account in July and got approved for the cc in December. I am working towards moving all of my banking business to them. They have been awesome. All of their CSR's are very pleasant and seem to go out of their way to answer your questions.

Re: NFCU Question

I too, had heard a lot of good things about NFCU.  So, I opened a membership today and decided I would apply for their visa cash rewards card.  I called and spoke to a representative.  He took my app, asked a few questions, then came back on the line a few minutes later and said I was approved for a starting CL of $25,000.  I had to ask him three times, to repeat that!  Interest rate is pretty good too.  Very, very positive experience.  I have low 100K salary.  Debt to income at 34%.  Mortgage, 2 Autos.  Couple of store cards and visa/mc, small personal loan.  I was NOT expecting a CL of 25K though, especially in today's economy.  They pulled Equifax.  FICO is 749.  No derogs of any kind.  Solid payment history.

On another note, but similar ... I applied for the Pen Fed card too, a week prior to today's NFCU App .... (small app spree mid Feb).  Was declined initially.  Asked for a recon. Recon kept dragging on after I emailed the letter, etc.  May have been a technical issue going on ...  Also sent e-mail to President of Pen Fed telling him of my recent experience.  Rcv'd call from VP of OPS today, said they approved 5K limit.  Very nice.  I liked the special hands on approach by the Pen Fed leadership there.  Makes me glad, to be a member there.  The CL is much smaller than the NFCU, but I will use it.

I have had an account with USAA for 6 Months.  Started with a 2K limit.  My first 6-month anniv just flew by.  Called and received a CLI of $1500 for a total of $3500 with them. Again, smaller but I like them too.

I keep my util no higher than 10% and generally on no more than two cards at a time and I PIF every month.

Try USAA, Pen Fed or NFCU ...  they are great to work with and easy to talk to.

Re: NFCU Question

Two things:

1. To Poster regarding a $30k Personal Loan.... Did you pay off debt? How long is the term for? and interest rate please?

2. OP Trying to make Navy primary bank.... They just recently (well actually maybe longer then I think!) added scanning checks in to deposit kind of like Chase and the picture thing... However the software they use is currently not compatible for MAC, but if you have a PC from what I understand unlike Chase who in the past limited me to $500 a day or something like that Navy does not limit but of course depending how large the check is you may see holds is what I gathered but might be slightly off since I can't actually use it Smiley Sad

but worth looking into.
