I got approved for a secured Nrewards card in August of 2015 because I was denied a unsecured card. Did the regular $500 limit. In October of 2015 I applyed for an unsecured card and was approved for $9,700 and then got a CLI to 10k in March of 2016. Recently that unsecured card recieved a CLI to 18k. My secured card graduated in October of 2016 which was after 13 statements and was given an automatic CLI to 2k. I am now waiting my 6 months to request a CLI on that account which I will do in May after the next AR. I have also been approved for a CLOC at 15k within a few months of establishing the secured card.
I share this with you to let you know that you don't have to wait until the unsecured card graduates to apply for a second card. Of course everyones credit history is different so your mileage may vary but hope this helps. I have read some post that their cards graduated after just a few months but when I have spoken with representatives they say that doesn't happen so don't know about that.
NFCU is the best, treat your accounts well and you will do well.
@Bcunniff9 wrote:Quick question about the secured nRewards card. I've had the card since 10/16, very basic card which is right up my alley, so I'd like to hold onto it until it graduates (hopefully). My current CL is $500, if I wanted to increase the limit using my savings that is linked to it, would they hit me with a HP like an unsecured card? Or is the CLI just a "hey you have the funds, here's your increase"? I've never had a secured product before so I'm kinda new to this. Thanks in advance!
Just to provide another data point.
BK13 Discharged Sept. 2014
Applied for NFCU Secured CC March 2015 for $1000.
Turned down for CLOC Dec. 2015.
April 2016 Secured card graduated. Apped for CLI. Got it to $5000.
Public Record removed from reports August 2016.
Received CLI to $17,500 late 2016.
Just asked for another CLI. Pending.
From what I have seen from NFCU is that they like clean reports. Some people can get fortunate but some can get a HP for their efforts.
