Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I want to apply for a secured card with NFCU, but I have three PIF judgements reporting as open on my CR. Anyone know if I should avoid applying until it updates.

Hi- I think the fact that your judgments are paid will be a positive but I would wait until your CR updates to reflect. NFCU seems to be more than fair in looking at the whole person and not just the credit score. My FICO is sitting at about 650 after a really bad car crash in 07 and my reports are still showing three unpaid medical collections (6 years old) as well as quite a few charge-offs or paid for less than amount owed (also 6 years old). They just gave me a lot of love. Not too sure about your specific situation, but if any lender will overlook past credit misgivings, it will be NFCU. Hope that helps.
I would file motions in the court that granted those judgments to vacate based on the fact that they are paid, if granted they are off your reports quickly. There is no reason to app while they still show open and I would try what I just said prior to apping for any cards.
As long as you have not burned Navy in past I don't think they ever deny for the secured card.
would still at least let them updated paid on judements but otherwise don't see why you couldn't get it.
Thanks for all you all's help. I'll hold off on my application. I'm going to try to get the judgements vacated, but I haven't heard of anyone in my state (Maryland) being successful with it unless it was past SOL at the time of fliling. I had to pay mine off.
I wasn't able to even get a Capital One secured so I'm cautious. I never burned navy in terms of credit...when over on their overdraft protection (Not NAVCHECK) but paid it back in full. I had a few pulls latelty for an auto loan and everyone just keeps saying get a secured card and use it to improve so I'm attempting to do do so. I have a Fingerhut, but the prices are so high..and I can't justify spending money for those items unless they are on clearance or sale..which doesn't come often. Then of course whatever you save is made back up in shipping.

Apply for the unsecured nRewards when you decide to app. They will counter offer the secured if not approved. Don't cut yourself short ![]()
id go ahead and open the secured now.... if you are able to get the judgements vacated in a couple months then you can go back and apply for unsecured but start building the history on secured now.

And thankfully NFCU still graduates unlike many other lenders.

+1 I would definitely do this first before proceeding for any CC with Navy Federal. In fact, if you can get those off of the report (or atleast a paid status on all the judgments), I would app for their unesecured card first.
Thanks all,
I still have several judgements that are constantly updating.....damn Midland...but I think I will definitely apply for the secured when the status changes. I need to re-invest in ScoreWatch.
The idea of applying for an unsecured and waiting for a counter offer sounds good..but I'm scared they will flat out deny me. I applied for a NacCheck of 500 and got turned down..though it wasn't immediately.
