Where did you hear that it's going to happened this summer?
I've heard it from a few different people that work there. There was a meeting about it a month or so ago. Flagship is the next card on the list to get upgraded since they just upgraded the cash rewards to the cash rewards Plus
This is very interesting, indeed.
As long as they keep the annual Amazon Prime benefit I'll likely keep it around regardless, but if they sweeten the pot by increasing the various cash back multipliers I might find myself actually using the card on a regular basis. 🤔
Conversely, if they do away with the (recurring) Prime benefit I'll likely close the card altogether, and apply outright for the Amex More Rewards at some point.
Oh, welcome to myFICO, @sinned96!
Thanks I joined back in January 2024 just never really posted here before. I'm usually on the Navy Federal groups on Facebook and Reddit. But I was searching for something and this popped up so I figured I'd reply with what I recently heard.
As far as I know they're keeping the Amazon Prime Yearly I've gotten it three years in a row now. A friend got it five years. Supposed to be like 4% on travel 3% on restaurants. And then 2% on everything else. I'm the same as you though they got rid of Amazon Prime I'll product change to a cash Rewards. Since I don't travel much so it's just a 2% card to me
Main appeal to me would've been a discount on Amazon Prime Yearly, at $95 it really isn't too appealing anymore unless you do already pay for full price Amazon Prime yearly and also want a 2% card. Plenty of 2% cards out there, and for Travel you have things like Citi Custom Cash, Custom Cash Rewards, Pathfinder Rewards, Voice Business, etc.
Yeah definitely if I didn't have Amazon Prime I wouldn't want it. I would just product change to a cash Rewards. Since I rarely travel. I have an FNBO Evergreen card that is $11,000 limit that's my other basic 2% card

Yep, same here. The only reason I did a PC from the GoRewards to the Flagship was for the Amazon Prime benefit.
I'll (probably) always have Amazon Prime so as long as I can break even I'll play along and keep the Flagship. Like you I already have other 2% cards (WF Active Cash, Citi DC, NFCU CashRewards Plus). I also have travel covered by the U.S. Bank AR (along with Citi Custom Cash and WF Autograph, in a pinch).
The real pain point for me with the Flagship is the $50 rewards redemption requirement. I get that it shouldn't matter if one is using the card often, but for a card that's already 'meh' it's just not really competitive IMO. If the rewards rate were better I might be persuaded to overlook it, though.
Has anyone else noticed that the anticipated travel categories don't exactly match up with the current set?
The rumored set includes: airline, hotel, car rental, rideshare, and cruise.
The current card's travel categories include: airline, hotel, car rental, bus lines, taxis, cruise lines, time shares, parking, and transit. (see footnote #5 in the link below)

I agree, if it's being upgraded to $95 they need to make it more appealing.
They should update it to something like 2.5-3x everything and with Direct deposit and 0.5x-1x extra. IMO.
Upping it only to match Amazon Prime fee wouldn't make it appealing. It would just save a couple of dollars and nothing else. I am no travel no soo ... I think that benefit usually isn't worth it in credit union cards.
-------
Okay check that, my spending is a little different than everything, and the rewards for everything would also have to compete with cards that are giving 5% cashback (flex, discover, custom cash are a phew examples)

If they are removing items from the travel category that makes it less valuable than Bank of America "travel" category credit cards.
One missing note is AUs get the same benefits credit as owner card for no extra fees. That would be over $500 in credit if you have four AUs using the credits. I have done shared Prime account before, with household member, and the mix in Kindle books selection gets messy. Best to have their own Prime account.
The one good thing, from the past and current offers, is minimum of 10x for regular spend
- spend $750 on travel, get 7500 points
- make two purchases on "utility, insurance, phone, internet, and cable services" and get 6,500 points
They have had dining and groceries spend offers. These offers offset the current AF.
