NFCU advice

I have only been a member a week and I apped for the platnium visa and was approved for 20k instantly. Currently I have a monthly spend of about 4-5k snd use my amex zync. I want to use my new nfcu card to show them my spend and PIF ability, however after I thought about using the platnium, I cringe at not getting any rewards.

I have an amex TE and a chase united plus with 6k limits at higher rates than my new nfcu. Both have 3k balances. I would be happy to transfer one of them to nfcu and use one of them for a month and PIF as I would like to raise both of their limits.

Will NFCU be ok with an immediate BT of 3k on a 20k limit on a new member? Should I try to PC to another card with rewards or should I just forgo a few thousand points to get some "brownie points" with NFCU?

My scores just went from 680's to 720's with a few thousand pay down last month.. I expect it will go higher once the new 20k line shows up? But I already have a few new accounts this year and around 8 HP, so any PC or BT should i worry about that?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Re: NFCU advice

Congrats on your approval. I know what you mean about using cards without the benefit of rewards. IMO CU cards are great for high cls and when an emergency occurs.

NFCU will not be concerned with the BT. I wouldn't PC the plat to a rewards cc cause they aren't very good either.

Re: NFCU advice

If you are paying interest on either of those other credit cards I would transfer both of them to Navy.

They do not blink about members using the credit given to them!

Re: NFCU advice

Is BT always available with nfcu cards? I see it on my dropdown menu, but haven't clicked it yet. At my purchase rate unless they run a special is what I figured? Thanks

Yes, BT always available at your current Purchase Rate.

Cash Advance always available also for 2% more... right into your checking if you want.

Then about once a year they run for 30 days usually a 12 months 0% and it goes to current cardholders and new on all credit accounts!

Re: NFCU advice

Im in almost the exact same boat. Well backwards. I apped for the cash rewards, approved for 25k, then realized I should have apped for platinum to do a BT. What the reps are advising me is to ask for the limit to be lowered, and then app for the other card I wanted. So in your case, maybe drop the limit on the platinum card to 15k, apply for a 5k rewards card, then do the BT over to the platinum card. I am stuck waiting for the PC - its taking forever! ok well, weekend + columbus day, etc. Nothing happens fast enough in this game Smiley Sad

Re: NFCU advice

I got 12.9 on my platnium.. how is your rate on the rewards card? I think im going to BT 3k off my true earnings card since its at 17.9 then it will be empty and I can do a couple of months of spend and PIF on it, I think that should put me in a good place to get my 3x CLI (denied 2 weeks ago, so January 1 is my goal)

Re: NFCU advice

Lexie - you say nfcu rewards aren't very good? I think my zync ends up at about 1.5% when I get HD gift cards (mr express points so gift cards worth a lot more than travel or product) and my true earnings is about 2% avg .. nfcu wouldn't be that good?

Re: NFCU advice

i keep seeing all these posts lately about getting the wrong navy card because you want to bt and you got rewards card....

you do realize that the lowest platinum rate is 7.99

the lowest rewards rate is 9.65

when my partner got his signature care which he used $5k of his Cash card they issues him a 15% apr vs his cash card is at 9.65... so just because you apply or pc to platinum does not mean the interest rate will be less!!!

Re: NFCU advice

Just an update.

I applied online and was instant approved for the cashRewards card at  a rate of 15.15% (or something like that). Asked for a PC to platinum and was quoted a rate of 15.75% - marginally higher than the cashRewards. Rep sent it to underwriting for manual review, and came back as "correct". The standards for Platinum must be a bit higher, I Guess?
