HOLY CREDIT CARD, BATMAN! NFCU just gave us our first 'rebuild' card with a 10k limit. nRewards. NFCU, I owe you a beer!  THANK YOU to everyone on this forum who talked about this CU. I never would have known to go to them to start our rebuild process.

wow that's awesome congrats!!!

Once you get checking account established, go for the Overdraft LOC.   Also, he can open up a 2nd line with them unsecured... If declined they will send a message telling him that he has to move some available credit from the 10k line in order to open the new credit card.

If you want a card from them long term there is not really a great reason to wait

Establishing accounts that you do not plan to use in the immediate future is not the same as looking for credit.   Its sort of a long term strategy to increase financial flexibility Smiley Surprised.

The best time to obtain additional credit is when you dont need it

They pull Equifax for credit, right? Im hesitant because I want my reports at their absolute best when I app. My Equifax is completely clean, but I am waiting for one last item to be removed from TU and EX.  I did also just have another card report to them.

They pulled EQ for me and my DH as well.

In my opinion, there is not a good reason to wait.  they are fairly lenient in their underwriting for member Credit Card applications.

Also, they have generous credit limit increase opportunities, in case your initial limit starts out low.

There is almost no reason you would be denied... so the sooner you app, the sooner you can start building payment history with them and establishing history on the account
