NFCU — join & app same day?

Is it possible to join NFCU and apply for a card at the same time? Would this result in only one HP? Can you get approved for the Flagship as your first NFCU card? Thanks!

Yes, I join and applied the same day. Mine was multiple hard pulls, but they haven't been pulling for membership in a while. Yes, you can be approved for a flagship as your first card, but it's recommended to make your favorite the second card as it tends to have higher limits.

@1LostArk ,

Yes you can apply any loan product the same time you join Navy Federal.  When I joined NFCU, I applied for the cash rewards card and a personal line of credit the day I joined.  There were 2 HP's. I applied for membership, the Visa, and the PLOC inside a branch. It's recommended to apply for the Flagship card as a second card.

800 credit score, multiple 20k limit cards, I think you'll be fine apping Flagship as the first card tbh, assuming DTI is normal

but it is true it should probably be a second card, but if you don't want a second card, I wouldn't let the advice shoe you into a card you don't want

if you want to wait 2-3 months, and get your direct deposit moved over first, and you can check that Navy is counting you as having Direct Deposit and are rather adverse to a lower limit or a rejection, you can take that path first

would you only want the flagship from them? or would you want Flagship + Amex? or Flagship + Platinum?

Just one data point, I joined NFCU 10-days ago and didn't apply for anything; I just checked my credit reports and don't see a single pull on any of them, hard or soft.

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

1. Yes it's ok to apply for a card right after you apply for membership.

2. Yes you can apply for the Flagship as your first card.

3. There is no HP for membership.

Just want to clarify, I think your question has an assumption that there is a hard pull just from becoming a member. There is NO hard pull of your credit just to become a NFCU member. You would only receive HPs from applying for one of their products: credit card, loans, etc.

Re: NFCU — join & app same day?

My experience was also a pull for membership (which as stated already, they no longer do) and a pull for applying for the Flagship card the same day.  I got a call to welcome me to NFCU and about a 30 minute tour of the website and all of the products they offer a week later, and they used one of those 2 pulls they already had to open a CLOC for me on that call.  Flagship was my first application.  It went pending and I had to submit POI due to "unusually high reported income" (their words, and I found it amusing because the number wasn't that big for my region) but I was approved for $24k.  Based on your card lineup, as long as your reports are clean I wouldn't sweat going for Flagship right off the bat.
