If you have a picture ID to prove who you are should be good enough. You can ask at the store but it shouldn't be a problem. People move all the time and it takes awhile for credit reports to update current address.

I always wondered how that worked. Like when someone steals your identity and gets the card? Say you lived in ny your whole life then all of a sudden are saying you live in maine how often would the CC companies send the card out?

I would assume so... I think more credit card fraud comes from people stealing card numbers and trying to buy gift cards. I used to work in retail we were told to be on high alert for people buying 500 gift cards.
