Navy Federal Questions

A few data points-  Been a member of nfcu for about 10 years.  Good history with them.  Currently have Platinum card SL 25k, never requested a cli until today, and just got the 24 hour message.  EQ score at 803, up about 150pts in the last 30 days.

Here are my questions:  What is the total exposure that navy will allow for credit cards?  I understand it's 50k on one card, but is that 50k across the board, or can I have multiple cards totaling more than that?

Which card typically has higher starting limits, the Flagship or the Cashrewards?

Is there one card that you would recommend above the other?  I know it's based on your personal spend, I just want to know your opinion.

Should I wait on the CLI answer before applying for a 2nd card?

WellDone!

The Flagship can go to $80K or any combo of two to three cards ($50K cap on cards all except Flagship)

I believe it is the same UW for all the cards.

I personally would go with what fits your spend the best. If you find you have a card that is not meeting your needs,

you can ask NFCU to do a product change. Use up any points/rewards first  ..as it is possible that they might not carry over .. YMMV

Apply for the 2nd card before asking for a CLI  >> (yields the best results)

Good Luck!

Re: Navy Federal Questions

As mentioned above flagship can goto 80k, plat and others to 50k max.  Max CC exposure with nfcu is 80k though.  Have a plat with 50k and amex more rewards with 30k was higher then they made me lower it once their computers allowed me to go beyond their max unsecured CC threshhold.  The asked how i wanted it to come off as think i was about 4-5k above max it use to be 100k, but was lowered at some point I believe

Before i skiddadle from credit , i just want to add here that the UW for Flagship definetly is NOT the same as CR , Plat, More , or nRewards cardSmiley Wink.  Not only must you meet the 5k minimum requirement to obtain the AF card, its one of the harder to get cards from Navy even with good credit. I believe they look at more than just your score to determine if you meet their requirements.  Further evidence can be seen on how many strike out when attempting it as first Navy card.

Navy doesn't "kiss" on the first date, do they @AverageJoesCredit?  Lol.  Smiley Tongue

And Flagship is their only daughter's "first date."  Smiley Wink

Re: Navy Federal Questions

I'm not sure of your card lineup, but for me the More Rewards fit my spend best and it had the best SUB. After SUB spend, it became my restaurant card for 3%. I have other 3% cards, but I use this one to keep frequent spend running through.
The Flagship usually has a $500 to spend $4000 offer that normally appears in March, so I'd wait to apply for it.

The More Rewards currently has a $250 to spend $3000 SUB and the cashRewards has $150 to spend $2000 SUB. I'm not sure how you use your cards, but since we cycle all our spend through cards, the SUB is never problem because we just divert spend through that card for a couple of months.

As for rewards structure, the Flagship and cashRewards are pretty average and the Flagship has a $49 annual fee. DW recently got the cashRewards for the SUB and 0% into APR, but it won't see too much use long term being a 1.5% card.

Our credit card journey started 3/2018

Re: Navy Federal Questions

I'm wondering if Navy Federal has different tiers of total revolving credit or something, because I have a 25k cash rewards, 20k flagship, and 5k checking line of credit.  I tried to get a CLI on one of them and was issued a denial letter that said I had reached their maximum revolving credit of 50k.  I called and asked a rep and they confirmed it.  I called another time and again it was confirmed.

I know there are people that have substantially higher credit limits, but I'm apparently as high as I can get with them at 50k across my accounts.  I hover between an 800 and 830 score across my cards for FICO and get their best interest rates for auto and home loans.

My guess is you hit a temporary maximum internal limit,

that they are willing to grant you at this point and time.

Try again in (6) months.
