Navy Federal Secured next step?

I was approved for a Secured card with Navy....woohoo! I'm now working on a second card to build on. Would it be possible to get a second card from Navy or is it better to go with USAA or US Bank? Just looking for one more secured card that preferable graduates then going to the garden.

Thanks all.

Ron1,

I still have a BK on my CR. I would like to get the Harley Davidson card but does anyone know if they will give a secured card to someone with a BK?

A BK generally clears your debts, unless you're sitting on a default student loan / tax lien, or other that doesn't, BK's probably aren't usually a huge concern for lenders when applying for a secured card (nobody coming out of the woodwork to take the security deposit away).

You'll probably be OK though individual lender and report may vary as always.

No, I don't know.  Have you tried First Progress Secured MC? They give it to almost everyone.  My brother got one and he likes the card.  They pulled TU.

Re: Navy Federal Secured next step?

I had the Navy Federal Secured nRewards card which they have since graduated into a unsecured card.  The next secured card I established was the Capital One secured Card.  The security deposit was $49 for a $200 limit and a small af of $29.  That's a fairly easy card to obtain but just a warning.  they do not graduate you from that card.

I found that US Bank will not approve a secured card if you have a BK on your CR. I read the app details and it states that if you have a BK on your CR you will not be approved. Bummer

Re: Navy Federal Secured next step?

Hello.  I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I signed up just to let you know about my experience with my NFCU secured card.

I got a NFCU secured card exactly a year ago that I funded with $5,000.  Well NFCU graduated my secured card exactly one year later! I also went ahead and applied for their flagship visa and the platinum visa cards, which were approved within one day after applying.  One year ago, my scores were in the low 500's after filing BK.  Well, now, one year later My scores are in the high 600's and NFCU has given me $30,000 of credit combined between the three cards I have with them. I'm pretty sure, though, the high limits have to do with my income (6-figure income) and the fact that I always PIF.

They're an AWESOME CU. They're very loyal to you so long as you are loyal to them.  I can tell you this because I recently applied for two other cards, one was denied and the other was approved, but with a useless $500 credit line.  Clearly this is because of my recent BK which NFCU has overlooked.

Another great bank is BofA, they do graduate their secured cards and they offer very generous CL's once they graduate your card.

Re: Navy Federal Secured next step?

USAA is a good bank to get in with though.   And after a few months payments on their secured card, they will approve you for one of their better cards.  I started my rebuilding with USAA.
