Hey guys ..
I'd like to thank everybody on this forum for this great community. I've learned a lot and your advice helped me build my credit.
I need your advice on one thing - my AMEX BCE. Two years ago I was approved for this card ( along with the Green card (closed later by me) and the Gold Premier). However, my limit has been the same sitting at $1000 for the past two years. All my attempts to increase the line were not successful.
My current profile looks like this: - 7 credit cards : %18 utilization.
Score: 708 TU - 699 EX
No baddies at all.
The denial reason is different every time - but the last was my FICO score!
I don't get it .. my score is high enough that I'm able to get VISA Sig cards! Should I close it?
How have you used the card, and what are your payment patters? Also, how is your income?

Honestly I wouldn't close it and Sock drawer it if you don't want to use it any more... MY EX score is 705 and Tu is 700 and they just accepted my 3X CLI last week from $1000 to $3000. I had 10% utilization though since at the time I only had 4 Credit cards reporting and only my Discover posting a balance

I carried some balance for a few months on the card ... but I've recently paid it down. I'm using about $250 of the $1000 line right now.
My income is $82,000 /year.

I make less then you and have similar scores and got mine approved about 7 months after i got my card... I have always PIF my card and have no baddies on my account. Do you have any baddies on your account at all?

Opinions will vary, but I believe that what helped me get CLI without a problem is that I heavily used the card and always PIF. I have never carried a balance with them. Not even during my intro promo.
I was approved for 3k, I then asked for 9k, and then I asked for 25k without any problems.
Perhaps you should heavily use the card for a few months, or at least charge what you can, and PIF.
Your income is great, and should allow you to justify a higher limit.
I guess that's a good strategy .. I'm curious why they wouldn't consider my gold card and how much I spend on that card (>$2,500 per month) when they make a decision on the BCE CLI request.

Yeah, try that and hopefully you have better luck next time. Do not give up!

There's a couple of things that ring up a red flag. The fact you make 82k/ yr and you're carrying balances on a card with a limit of 1000 for months is usually a bad sign. What's your current UTIL rate for all cards? And they say it's ideal to keep your card under 10% at your spending level (which means under 100 before closing statement) to increase your chances of getting the 3XCLI
And why did you close your charger cards so early? Sometimes Amex reads this as churning cards when you close the cards within years (taking advaantage of bonuses) and are more reluctant to let you get increases on their cards or new cards in general.

I wasn't making $82k at that time ... this is a new job that's making me get 82k/year.
Right now I'm using %18 of my total credit on all lines.
I only closed the Green card and replaced it with the Gold Premier .. they back dated it to the original date back when I opened the green.
