That is awsome! Thank you for the heads up on applying in 2016 and I would still get Jan 2014 as my MSD so excited. Makes the coming months a little bit easier to face knowing there is a reward for wait. Hopefully Amex will grant me a decent sL in 2016 as an established member
I also agree OP should wait to app. That $1k limit that AMEX just gave you? It's a signal that you have a very narrow ledge to work with to really get in the door. You are still kind of on the doorstep, not really safely in. Use the card carefully, pay in full, and see what the first 3X CLI request gives you in a few months. If all goes well, in a year you will be doing well with those AMEX Apps.
However, having recommended the "correct" way to proceed, given the range of "Ohhh Shiny!" comments in the first post, I am going to bet that when Diners opens again, the OP apps that. This will provide us with interesting data points both for human behavior and for how Diners Version 2 approaches hyper-appers.
Cheers!

LOL I actually did apply and took 4 HP on Diners during the frenzy and was approved for both the Premire and Elite SL $15k each. I did get declined twice due to unable to verify ID before finally reading the address issue Diners was having. Yah I like pretty shiny things
my husband shakes his head and tells me I have problems when I get excited over a new credit card vs. a new pair of shoes or a purse....

Just tell DH you saved money by not buying any shoes. Remember: It's not what you spend, it's how much you save that matters

Advice to wait is spot on here, but we can play pretend for an second and pretend its end of 2015 now. As far as which card to get depends on how much travel you plan on doing or if you want pure cashback. Since all three cards have bonus categories for gas and groceries. you need to decide if you will be using card to purchase airfare, hotels, train fare etc. If you think an lot of spending will be in that category i would go for PRG , I would preferably wait for 50k offer. Now if you just want to accumulate MR points but don't travel as much EDP or ED is an good option, especially if you can meet 20 or 30 swipes an month. Lastly BCP or BCE is only good if you want an cash back option, because MR to statement credit or gift cards is an horrendous use of MR, you get .5% value or there abouts.
Thank you for the great advise! I do have travel cards Arrival+ and Venture so I think I am leaning towards the EDP
2015 is going to drag so slow. Might have to stop logging into the forum so I wont get tempted from other peoples approvals
Nice i am just curious why you have both venture and arrival + aren't they pretty similar cards? EDP is an nice card to have , i am using it almost primarily for most of my purchases. CSP is the other card i use just for dining. I like having CSP and to lesser extent ink plus for the no FTF for the times i do travel outside US. The one thing about amex cards that are an slight annoyance is that almost all their cards have FTF.
I applied for the arrival+ for the sign up bonus already paid for an emergency trip to Colorado. The Venture card also for the sign up bonus plus we have a trip to Europe planned for 2015 so wanted 2 cards with no FTF. Chase wont give me the time of day took 4 HP trying to get back in with them. Took 6 HP tries to get in with Amex so a big bulk of my HP was wasted trying to get in with Chase and Amex...

Yes I keep telling him how much in cash back and reward we get by using the CC and paying off monthly vs only using cash/ debit cards. He just shakes his head

Ahhh i see with all those HP you need an slight break from apping. The denials are usually an good sign to garden. I am still trying to figure out what i would use either venture or arrival+ for. I don't think my spending would warrant paying AF after first year. I would probably use DC type card instead, gives an bit more flexibility for me. Right now citi aa and boa alaska air are cards i am eyeing, they have pretty good value for what i would use those points for.

Don't think they waive the first year for everyday preferred. I'm not sure what the breakpoint is for when the EDP becomes better than the ED. The signup bonus isn't normally that great either. These are cards you get because you want the cards long term for the earning potential. These are not the type of cards where the value lies in the signup offers.

Right. I looked at them, and looks like the Everyday card makes sense for me in January. The EDP doesn't to me, at all. Can't understand the 95 AF on it. Not sure. Still have a good bit of time to further narrow the choices down.

Same for me but the ED is a nice card to keep the MR points "alive" .. personally I am waiting for the 30K SPG offer to come back and this hopefully at the beginning of the year and not towards the end....want some backdating and not further kill my AAoA..lol
