Checked online application status ... BOTH card appplications showed as cancelled. CALLED AGAIN. Was assured by Nitin (India) that although the system reflects that, one - PRG - was cancelled. The Green is being processed. As a matter of fact, system shows that fax with address verification was approved. Nitin said that to his understanding the review should be done today. Hope that means a [positive] decision soon!

I am pretty sure that it is an approval. I hope that I didn't come off as pompous or condescending to you. When I started this game with my credit, I was ignorant as to the entire credit schema. Like you, I made several mistakes--some that just cannot be corrected by anything but time. Then I found this site, and have still made a couple mistakes, but nothing major. I know that you are going to be successful in the coming year. You are already almost into the 700 club. Just work on your utilization bro, and you will be pushing that 720+ Fico in no time. And I am sure that you already know this, but the only scores that matter are Fico scores. Credit Reporting agency scores are pretty much worthless -- practically everyone uses Fico for their decision. I stopped even looking at them and just use my 3 credit reports to monitor changes to my credit reports.
Good luck to you bro, and remember, there are no stupid questions here.....Most of us have had credit problems in the past, no we know what it's like...You don't even have much of a problem. The optimal utilization is under 10% I don't think you get dinged too much until you go over 20%, but I Iam not 100% sure about that, but you can use those points as goals to shoot for.

I'll offer my congrats now because usually when all they need is address verification it's an approval
swapmeet: I absolutely have no hard feelings. I appreciate your zeal for helping someone you identify with ... cause I certainly do identify with everything you said. It is great advice as I move forward. Now that I know a bit about this forum and the people who post, I will trust its guidance in the future. [and once I get the decision on my current application] Thanks for the heads up about FICO over Agencies. I look forward to dealing with utilization and then the 700 Club.
myjourney: I've just started mine, so I appreciate the sentiments. I have my fingers crossed.
While I await the decision on the AmEx Green, I just received the Chase Freedom (2.5k). Before I even activate it, is is feasible, smart/dumb to request a CLI (if it means no HP)?

Congrats on the Freedom
I would be surprised if they granted your cli request without a hp----and before the six month mark. They took me from 2k-5k at the six month mark though (well...They gave me an auto cli and I requested a cli after that--both adding up to a 3k increase).
Thanks to Lexie, myjourney, swapmeet. I'll wait a while. don't want a HP. Will look into it after 6 months.
awaiting amex.
