Need a little more info about your credit profile to help define a strategy.

1.) Did you burn Chase in your BK7 from 2011? If so, approx how much?

2.) Is the BK7 Still showing on your EX/EQ/TU Reports?

3.) What are your current FICO 8''s and what is your EQ FICO 5?

4.) Approx Individual & Household Income

5.) INQs EX/EQ/TU

  • Last 12 mths
  • Last 24 mths

6.) New Accounts in last 12/24 months

7.) Any other baddies on your reports

1. Yes. Not sure exact amount. A few thousand.

2. Yes.

3. Score is 751 EX as per denial letters from Chase

4. North of 100k

5. Ex:11 / TU: 9 / EQ: 5

6. 7

7. Spotless since BK

That BK burning them may be what’s holding you down. May have to go slower with that. They can be conservative. On the plus they let you in the door. So with time I think you can raise it. Just maybe not the six months I had talked about.

Keep in mind that Chase reports zero whenever cardholders pay to zero, meaning that you don't necessarily have to take a score hit if you want to try cutting large statement balances. I don't think cutting a balance is a difference maker, though.

If I had to guess, Chase being burned in your 2011 BK definitely has something to do with the toy limits given. Also, I suspect no amount of recon would've gotten your CSP approved since you're over 5/24. I'm actually kinda surprised you got the FU approved unless that was the 5/24 card, or you got an in-branch preapproval. The Chase Amazon Visa isn't restricted by 5/24 (but still does count towards the "5 cards") so that was fine.

I was actually at 4/24 when I applied for the CSP (5/24 if you count the Lowe’s card). I got the 7-10 day wait message, and I figured it’d be denied because of the BK. Since I’d already taken the HP hit, I applied for the FU too. That was an immediate decline. Then I called to recon the CSP first. The analyst thought about it really hard before finally saying no because he’d have to approve a minimum $5k limit and he couldn’t give me that kind of SL. We went back and forth for a while. He offered to call me back to keep working on it. He finally called back and said he tried an override but couldn’t get it done. I really thought I had it for a second. Almost there. The next day I called to recon the FU. That was actually easy, but only got me $500.

Now that I’m recounting, I’m at 8/24 because I got the Uber Visa and 2 PenFed cards right after the FU. So I’m gonna have to wait a while to go for the CSP again.

3 more years till the BK falls off.

Re: Need new strategy to trigger auto CLI with Chase

Also consider a new strategy...as an alternative to trying...to trigger an auto CLI from Chase.

Some people do X, get a CLI, and tell everyone about it. Others do X and get years of nothing.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU

Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE

Might as well wait the 2+ years to get past 5/24 and for that BK to fall off if you request early exclusion.

Re: Need new strategy to trigger auto CLI with Chase

Ok, your story makes more sense now. First, congratulations on getting back in with Chase! They have a long, long, memory for BK’s and the fact that you got back in with with 2 cards is awesome!!!

Burning them in the BK7 is the main thing holding you back right now. New Acconts are the 2nd biggest factor. More than likely your limits are locked where they are for now no matter how much you put through the card. 99% sure you wouldn’t even get a CLI with HP on either card.

So you have some planning and decisions to make about your rebuild if you want high limit Chase Cards again.

1) GARDEN, no more HPs or Apps until your accounts age and your get under 4/24 again.

2) Keep using the Chase cards and constantly pay them to zero. Chase ways this very heavily when scoring accounts internally which becomes a primary factor in future account and cli approvals

3) Once you’re back to 4/24 you’ll need to get ALL AU accounts off your credit report that are under 24mths old. So they don’t blind side you during your Chase App and cause a instant denial.

4.) By the time you are 4/24 again you should out of Chase’s BK Memory and that’s when you app for CSP. Get your EQ FICO 5 score as high as possible as well. A high EQ FICO 5 and high internal scoring will make sure you get a higher SL on the new CSP prob a $10k limit if you have other major cards over $5k already.

5) Roll the CLs from the other cards into the CSP.

Every card you app & are approved for now will put that CSP with a nice high limit further and further away.

I wasn't sure if Chase CLIs are also affected by their 5/24 rule. If so, I'm basically SOL now with all the recent new accounts. If not, I was hoping to increase the limits on those 2 Chase TLs so when I apply for the CSP, I'll have better chances of an approval.

I'll just have to be a lot more patient than I'm used to. I want the Freedoms and CSP in my name. We've had them under my wife's for years with CLs in the 20Ks each. I wonder if that also had an effect when I was doing the recon. The analyst asked about my other Chase TLs. It was probably even less of an incentive to approve me knowing I already had access to several high limit Chase cards. Years ago, my aunt also added me as an AU to 2 of her Chase cards when I filed for BK to help me out with my credit rebuild. I don't use those cards but they're on my report for like $40K TLs. Those are solid 20 year old TLs.
