Got a letter today from Cap1 telling me that, on 19 Jan 2017, the Platinum card would be transitioning from a 1% cash back (and 2% on travel) to a straight 1.5% cash back.
In other words, the Plat basically becomes the Quicksilver.
And just when I was looking to combine my Plat with my QS
Since when has the platinum card had rewards?

Could be an older version of the card. Capital One also sends out customized card offers; I once got an offer for that gave 1% back on payments only.

Since I got it way back in 2013 (my oldest card). Before right now, I didn't even know that was unique or strange.
I am wondering if I got the offer because I haven't used the card in over a year (other than a BT that I did just because I got tired of not getting CLIs due to low usage)
Surely I can't be the only one with cash back on the Plat.

I have a Capital One Platinum MC, a.k.a. Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra Platinum MC, which has a rewards structure of 2% cashback on all purchases, but only redeemable at the full 2% value if redeemed for travel purchases or gift cards (for example, the non-travel statement credit rewards redemption value is less than 2%). Also no BT fees. I received an offer for and applied for the card in 2012. Originally came with a $59 AF, but I was later able to get the AF permanently waived. So far to date, I haven't received any letter mentioning that Cap1 was changing the rewards structure for it though.

Thanks for the share OzMan. I hope you find the new reward structure beneficial.
