Re: New Card: The Bread Rewards™ American Express® Credit Card

Ah thanks for pointing out my error.

So the Bread would be 3.75%  whist the US Cash + is better at the 5%.

So the 25% boost on the 5% category (e.g., Utilities)  could make this a 6.25% card?

I think youre' confusing that with the Cash+ card. The Bread card only has 3% on utilities.

Re: New Card: The Bread Rewards™ American Express® Credit Card

While most people don't have utility bills in excess of $500+ a month, you could possibly exceed the Cash+ limits of $2000 per quarter if you do, in which case the Bread Rewards could continue to earn you nearly 4% once you max out the Cash+.

Well maybe...depends on if you run into the $2,000 per quarter cap on the Cash+ or not. If you bump into that you will get less than 5%. Of course the work around is getting a Max Cash Preferred card from an Elan partner credit union and and also setting it to 5% on utilities for another $2,000 per quarter. And since these cards let you select two categories for 5% even if you don't use all the cap for utilities you can have streaming services, or something else where you don't spend as much fill in the gap so you can maximize your earnings. There are actually enough cards giving 5% today that if you really want you can have 5% cash back for just about every dollar spent by most normal people. I just wish I had more HPs to burn but right now I don't.

I  respect the comparisons you guys are making to other cards. In my case this card is just falling out of the clouds into my lap to replace a fairly useless comenity mc 1.5 pct cb. Now I will get 3 pct cb on my utilities, sweet.

Re: New Card: The Bread Rewards™ American Express® Credit Card

DW just got a letter in the mail on Saturday, her Comenity MC is switching over to this card in September. So if you are currently a Comenity MC holder, you may be getting upgraded/switched over to this one.

Interesting. I'd never heard of this before. I got excited about it until I saw that it's 3% rewards POINTS. I'm guessing that's not equivalent to 3% cash back?

Maybe it is. I don't know.

I can't say for sure with Comenity/Bread but at least with my other points cards it just means you don't usually get to redeem straight into a checking/savings account if you want to. They seem to favor statement credits and gift cards. It is something to think about but so far I've been okay with statement credits. It's not the quite the same thing but it accomplishes the same goal.

The letter I got from Bread says percentage not points, I just read it a few times to make sure.

Doubt it. They'll more than likely keep these side by side.
