I continue to post in the 'Approvals' section since I believe my data points might be helpful to others on the forum who might have a similar credit profile (my approval posts can be borderline 'wall of text' with the amount of detail I try to provide).  Those who don't find my approval threads useful don't have to read them.

This being said, I'm not going to knock anybody who picks an arbitrary number and decides that's their personal 'optimal' number of credit accounts.  Even though that approach isn't right for me personally, there is likely wisdom in their underlying reasoning - and I'm always open to a different way of looking at things.  All I ask for is that same respect in return.  Smiley Wink

I'm curious as to the purpose of the two QS cards and Delta.

The QS MasterCard is my oldest bankcard so I'm keeping it around mostly for its age.  My QS Visa is newer, but has better BT offers than the QS MasterCard.  I do understand how FICO treats closed accounts, but since there are many years difference between my QS MasterCard and all of my other cards and it has no AF I'm keeping it around (the QS Visa has an 'OK' credit line so there's no pressing reason to combine).

I originally got the Delta to use as a 'donor' for my BCP (at the time I was unsure if they would ever give my BCP a much-needed CLI) but I was also able to 'bank' the 30k SkyMiles I got when opening it, and of course there's the baggage fee benefit if/when I decide to fly in the next year.  If my plans change and I end up not taking a flight in the next 12 months I'll probably close it, but I don't regret opening it in any case.

I can literally write a paragraph for each card I have on how useful it is to me if anybody is truly interested.  Smiley Happy

And I would totally read that!!! Smiley Wink  IF you do decide to publish such info... let me know!  (Even though they're 'your' reasons... I have a feeling there's a chance the information contained therein could still be quite useful (to someone, perhaps).

You know I would too I think, it'd probably be interesting to start a thread where some of the members explained their credit (edit) card path both for reasoning and what went right and what went wrong (don't want the thread to get moved /ducks).

Besides being interesting, it might actually be really useful, hard to say but UncleB if you do the honors of starting it since this is kinda your idea I'd certainly post my own journey up too and I think over time others might as well.

More edits: probably want to play with the formatting a bit, might be interesting to do chronological and even put CLI requests (for those of us who can remember them rather than spamming the buttons; I kid I kid!) and get tradeline development in there too or maybe even repost some approval stats keeping in mind those change over time, lots of things which could be done with this.  Reserve the top post if we try to make some semblance of structure to it, start the real posts on the second one, and go for it.  I think it could work as a good community thread personally.

Excellent suggestion Revelate!  BTW, placing a thread of the above mentioned nature in that "Fico Fitness" area with a re-vamped name, could just be the stimulus that board could use!

and yes, Uncle B, I would certainly read your post as well.

I'd actually leave it in Credit Card and make it Credit Card focused... we can't get people to move en masse to another board without more traction, and pretty much everyone who gets a vote is aware of this.

Actually as a funny similar story you should've heard the deafening silence when I dared to suggest we take the Garden Thread and move it to Applications when we split it off... and really, for a community thread it should be left here, hence just make it credit card focused and then nobody can complain and TBH that's what most people on this forum care about anyway; or to state that better, the majority of users spend most of their time in the credit card (or rebuilding) boards and not so much in others, and for a thread like this to succeed it needs eyeballs.

Put it where it'd get the most traction and let's not repeat old mistakes is my thought; I have no idea if the FICO Fitness Challenge can really be saved but all I could do was just send the link off to the admins, I'm out of the loop beyond that but I know historical precedent.

Edit: sigh, again I'm sorry... I develop ideas over time; reserve the first two posts if you do it UncleB, would require some care and feeding but the Journey will be evolving for anyone that wants contribute, and then we can do something like index it by username, link to their post, with an update date to really get it right without it turning into a substitute for the approvals forum (which nobody in their right mind wants) and it also keeps everyone from having to cut and paste their data into a new post if they can just edit their old one.  Worst case as this is going to be a challenge if it takes off, I may be able to ask for my moderator tag back (historical precedent for other moderators that sailed off into the sunset) if I promise not to break anything to try to take some of the update load off you as can't really delegate thread curation duties to anyone sub moderator status in Lithium.
