New US Bank CLI Rule (for anyone who is interested!)

I just called US Bank to see if they might have a CLI showing as available on my account, as the rule used to apparently be that you'd be eligible for a $1500 increase every 90 days. Well, I spoke to a very lovely (and apologetic) CSR who told me that their rules have JUST changed, and that now you can get a CLI every six months. It is possible to put in a request earlier than that (no hard pull, apparently - in fact, it sounded like no pull at all, from what she said, just an internal history review), but I didn't want to do that and ask for anything out-of-the ordinary. She said that the chances of getting approved like that is pretty slim in any case.

So, just a heads-up for anyone who may have been planning to ask for a 3-month CLI, or for anyone who wasn't aware of that policy but hasn't had one for six months or more! Smiley Happy

Thanks for the update.! And kudos to US Bank for being upfront about their changed policy.

I wish that everyone who gets upset because they didn't get some sort of automatic CLI or APR reduction or something else that used to occur in the past would realize that times are really different now, and just because something was posted here on the forums as happening back in July, doesn't mean that we're going to see it happening again any time soon.

IMO, when it comes to auto-CLI's and other goodies, all bets are off. This might be different for such programs as Cap One's Credit Steps, with a published schedule of CLI's, but otherwise, it's a whole new ball game.

Re: New US Bank CLI Rule (for anyone who is interested!)

last week when I spoke to rep trying for that $1500, he said nothing was offered on my account but I could request it and it would be 50/50 chance they would do hard pull... I don't like those odds!!

anyone else actually apply for increase and ended up with no pull??

I have not asked for over 2 years because I have been scared of credit pull and CLD

Is it automatic at 6 months or do you need to call and ask? If so what # do you call?

Just call the number on the back of your card. The CSR I spoke to said that the CLIs will sometimes be given automatically, but that very often, people will call when they haven't been given any auto-CLI, but it will show on her screen that they are eligible for the $1500 - sounds like when that's the case, all she has to do is click a button or to for them to 'accept' their CLI. From what she said, if you don't get an auto--CLI, you shouldn't assume you're not eligible for one, it might just be a case of calling and they'll put it through for you straight away. She was really nice, and said that when it gets past the six (previously three) month mark, it's definitely worth calling, because they'll be able to see immediately if you're eligible for an immediate CLI - sounds like if the computer shows that you ARE eligible, you'll get it without too much of an interrogation. I don't know what the odds are on the CLIs that involve some kind of manual approval, or what they're looking for with those, but from what I gather, the $1500 CLIs were pretty much yours for the asking every three months (if you keep the account in good standing) up 'til now, but they've now changed the rule to six months instead of three.

The CSR I spoke with was great - I didn't get a CLI (maybe I could have, but I didn't want to ask for anything that wasn't showing as 100% on offer to me), but she was very upfront about how things work there, and was just generally very... nice. I love US Bank.

Think you need to wait 6 months.

but all cli requests are most likely hard pulls with usbank unless you just ask if one is in account with no pull.

Thanks CA, but since it is at activation, some cards will give cli at activation, does us bank do the same?
