Hi guys, my 2 year old Walmart store card graduated to a MC about a month ago. At first I was stoked because it has a $6,100 CL and a MC is taken everywhere. Then I saw that it reported as the old store account being closed by issuer and a new MC opening. This killed my already low average age of accounts to below 2 years. I took on alot of new credit way too quickly and every point counts. Is there any way I can argue to have the original date as the open date or is this an "it is what it is" situation?

Unfortunately, "it is what it is". A MasterCard credit line is a totally different critter than a store card credit line. At least you (presumably) didn't receive a Hard Inquiry as well
So, since you can't change it, just stay focused on the positives of having a nice new MasterCard which is accepted (almost) everywhere and a tradeline that will continue to grow with you over the years!

Not sure how your AAoA would go down by them closing the account since closed accounts in good standing remain for 10 years.
But as was stated above, unfortunately, it is what it is.
AAoA decreased because of the new 0-month tradeline, not the closure of the old account.
This forum is chalked full of good useful information in order to avoid these things.
So sorry that you didn't comb over this information because you'll find a lot of posts of members who "refused the upgrade" on purpose in order not to suffer an AAOA ding to their profile.
Just to add what is already been mentioned, you can't change the issue now, just press on ahead with it

If Citi ever offered me an "upgrade" to MC on my Brooks Bros store card, I'd refuse it.
If I couldn't refuse it, I'd close the account (it would be forcibly closed, soon, anyway) and avoid the creation of a new account.
I certainly hope all banks would give customers notice in advance. Have there been any cases of a store card "upgrading" to a major network card in which the cardholder had no way at all of avoiding a new account?
Thanks guys for all the replies. I figured as much and I deserve a kick in the butt. I'll just keep chugging along I guess.
