Re: No EMV for my Cap1 World MC

Are you sure they deleted your post? There are so many worse comments/complaints on their page so I am a bit surprised they would delete your question.

They responded to mine.  Said "No ETA yet on chip and pin".

Yes, this is the standard response.   I was talking to one of their fraud people, and he said that that group really wants chip&pin here, but he hadn't heard of any plans to implement. (Or even chip&sig).

As with some of the other international banks, it's not the Cap One doesn't know about it.  It produces chip&pin cards in its UK and Canadian markets.

Yet another case of us knowing more than the reps, I guess.

Re: No EMV for my Cap1 World MC

USAA has a real chip & pin (not chip & signature) available to their USAA Platinum Master Cards & World Master Cards. Not aware of any other USAA products with chip & pin. As to the requirement of Visa & Mastercard must take mag strips ... hmm in the USA. Heard that before but on the international level the EMV Chip & Pin is the standard and as has been stated on this thread, not everyone can process mag strips on an international level at certain types of facilities. It is the USA that has fought the change and has not wanted to import the EMV technology due to the cost of changing equipment. Other threads on this site have mentioned countries where mag strips work fine except at ATM like terminals and I think someone mention Ireland was serious about chip and pin technology. Moral of the story, depends on where you are at.

How does that work; does it still have a mag strip for non-EMV transactions?

I am going to ask them for it on my Plat and Amex...

Yes, USAA has both a mag strip and a chip & pin in one card.

Sweet.  Definitley requesting that for the Plat, and will see if they can do it on the Black Amex.
