I've been hearing some rumblings that it is no longer possible to product change the AAdvantage Card to Citi Thank You cards such as the Citi Custom Cash or Double Cash. This would be a big blow in one of the strategies to obtain multiple Custom Cash cards for an optimized cash back credit card set up. Oddly enough, from the users I'm hearing from when asking to downgrade from the AAdvantage Card, the options now seem to be only other AA cards or Costco cards....

Any proof or just "rumblings"...is this personal experience or just "what you've heared"? By making this post all you've done is amplify "rumors" with no substantial evidence which isn't helpful.

Well there are these links both with data points in the comments of this being true.
Reports: Citi No Longer Allowing Product Changes Between AAdvantage & ThankYou
March 28, 2025
My source through articles, videos, and reddit posts. where people who have the card have called to try and product change and there hasn't been a successful product change in the past week. All the users have been directed towards other AA cards or the Costco card. It would be good to continue the conversation here for anyone who has the AAdvantage card to see if they are seeing the same on their end
Just throwing this in here as a DP -

Same back in the day was able to PC an AA card to CCC many years ago but can't think how long ago back when CCC first came out sometime though.

Nerd alert:
The CCC was offered June 2021.
(I have this date written down 😁.)
My wife and I both PC'd our AAdvantage Platinum Select cards to Citi Custom Cash cards just over a month ago.
Maybe we got it done right before the change?
I just found out that you cannot go in reverse. You cannot change from a Custom Cash to an AA card.

Why would you want to?? The AAdvantage SUB can be lucrative given the waived annual fee for the first year. I want to say my wife and I both got 75k AA miles for like $4000 in spend. We used her card one month, and mine the next, for our daily spending and used the 150k miles to take our family on vacation with plenty of miles leftover.
I certainly wouldn't want to lose that by simply PC'ing to the AA card.
Conversely, PC'ing from the AA Select to the Custom Cash before the AF hit worked out well.
