I closed one of my credit cards that I had less than a year. It had a balance of 300 that I have been trying to pay on a monthly base, but they keep adding more charges to my account. I know owe the company over 400 dollars!!!! What do I do to pay off the balance without these charges that keeping going on my account?

What card is it?  What was the initital limit?  What charges arethey adding?  Should be no more than the interest unless the account was o/l when closed.  Are you sure they are showing it closed and not hitting you wth late fees?

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

It was orchard bank and the initial limit was 300 dollars. It wasn't over the limit when I closed it. I also received a letter in the mail confirming that the account was closed. I think I keep getting hit with o/l fees, but if my account, why are they still charging my account? The account is now over 400 dollars, which is 100 dollars more than my credit limit).

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

I would definitely call them on this one.  What do your statements say.  you always have the right to close an account without additional feesat your current interest rates.  How does it look on your credit report?  Is it showing late pays?  The only thing I can think is f they are charging you some sort of monthly maintenancefee but it wouldn't do that.  Did you have any charges come in after closure? I know that some banks will keep your account open if you have any charges come in after the date you close it and you have to close again.

This is definitly worth looking into.  If you don't get satisfaction go to a supervisor.

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

Are you only paying the minimum payments each month?  If you are, and those payments are less than the monthly accruing interest, your balance will continue to increase month after month.  The minimum payment on the statement is only the payment required to keep your account in good standing, it is not the payment required to eventually pay off your balance.  If you want to do that, you need to pay significantly more than the minimum due.

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

I pay the minimum balance every month because I've messed up with previous accounts and credit cards and I'm trying to get all of this right. I can afford to minimum a month. I haven't checked my credit report yet, but I think I'm going to, then I will let you know what it says. Thanx for all the help. I just sucks cuz I'm trying to raise my credit and it seems no matter how hard I try, something else messes up my plans.

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

In that case its time for plan B.  Do you know of anything that you can cut back on? Have you thougt about maybe working a part-time job a few hours a week, even if from home?  If your mins are les than interest (and I haven't seen that practice in a long time), you have no choice but to do something else.

Re: Not getting anywhere!?

Is this your only balance? IF you have a ton of other balances too and you can only afford to make minimum payments.. then you might want to consider filing bankruptcy then trying to scrape together minimum payments for balances you'll never pay off.

Should only be used as a last resort, but it sounds like you have bigger problems then this $400 debt.
