Re: Not using a card...

The card may not have an AF, but the overpriced merchandise is in a sense the AF.  I don't think it would hurt SD the card.  Maybe buy a pair of socks every 6 months to 1 year.  However, you might want to check to see if they report to a CR if there is no activity that month.  If it doesn't report, then the card will not help that much.

You scores should recover in 6-12 months.  At that point, it might be time to get a more useful card and SD the Buckle permanently.  You could probably get something like a Kohl's card now, but if you wait, you will have more options.  Hopefully, you can find something that you want to keep for the long term as your next CC.

 Forgive me, but what does AF and SD sand for? I'm new to these abbreviations!

And to those who asked why I applied for an undesired card, I didn't actually apply for it. I was offered the card using what has been described to me on this forum as a "the shopping cart trick." There are lists of stores known to pre-approve shoppers on their websites for their credit cards, and Buckles was among them. The pre-approval only soft-hit my credit since they pre-approved me, so it's a way of building up a credit limit without getting the hard hit. My Walmart card and Visa Journey Capital One card created a hard hit to the credit bureaus.

AF = annual fee

SD = sock drawer or put in a safe place and not to be used.

Here's my pov on applying for undesirable cards. While you may have not been dinged with an inquiry your AAoA (avg age of acct) took a hit. While this may not be an issue as you start your credit building, it's something to think about. Seems like whenever I see the shopping cart tricks this tidbit is never considered.

Re: Not using a card...

Also, you don't want to have a bunch of low limit credit cards that you never use. More cards does not mean a higher score. The shopping cart trick is good if you can't get other cards, but if you can, let those grow and your score will get better until you can get the cards you really want
