For what it is worth my gf has close to perfect credit, makes a lot of money, has some very high limit cards ($45k range), but still only has the store card with a $2K limit after many years. She doesn't shop at Target very often and always PIF. Not a huge deal for us, but a data point.

I've always wondered that. Thanks for sharing
I have had the store card since 2010.
I also have a nice income and FICOs near 800.
I started at $2000, and in 2014 was raised to $2800.
I shop in Target store maybe once every 2 months and spend maybe $60-70. I also have shopped online.
Still no Mastercard. I guess that I can't fault Target, but I am irritated.
I also have bankcards with huge limits.
Go figure.

Ditto. I have a Target next to me. I am not shopping there just because I am not getting 5% (I refuse to pay full price), and do not feel like applying for a purely store card. For me, it is Target's loss, and Amazon's (and local supermarket's) gain.
Why not just get their Redcard Debit then? Same discount.

Id let statement close. Usually a couple hundred or less. PIF and update income each month, even with no change. I let Christmas presents go 2 months, one month of $3 interest.
Notified of upgrade last month with CLI to $9000. Took me 20 months.
Thanks for the info, that is what I am going to be doing. You're the 3rd post I have come across with the $9k CL being the trigger. While I have read $5k is what triggers it. Will be interesting to see if and what triggers ours.
Just FYI I got an upgrade at $2500. This was many years ago and I cant give any other information because I just don't remember lol.
I also don't shop at Targetany more. Put some stocking stuffers on this card at Christmas to keep them from closing it. Limit is still $2500.
I was told today by a supervisory CSR (in United States!) that the cardholders who get the upgrade to Mastercard, seem to be, in her observations, the heavy Target spenders.
So, I guess that if you are not spending $500-600 monthly at Target, you are unlikely to be given the upgrade.
For me, the credit card must fit into my lifestyle, as I will not try to fit into their lifestyle.
I am officially abandoning any hope for the upgrade, since I spend maybe $600 annually on the crad.
Good luck to the rest of you !!
Hope springs eternal(ly) !
I knew it wouldn't get me one, but i asked thru my acct what it would take to get an MC... Not sure how to take the response, but i'm not spending any extra money at target to get an MC.
Hi ,
Thanks for asking about the Target Mastercard.
At this time, we're not opening new Target Mastercard accounts, or accepting requests to upgrade existing RedCard accounts to the Target Mastercard.
We hope that you'll still enjoy the benefits of your current RedCard with 5% savings in store or online, and free shipping every day. Restrictions apply. Select RedCard Benefits Program Rules below for details.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
