Odd Marketing from Capital One

I currently have two Capital One Quicksilver cards... a MasterCard that was PC'd from a QS1 (and was Orchard Bank before that) and a Visa Signature that I applied for April 2015.

Over the last couple of weeks I've received two mailers from Capital One trying to get me to apply for yet another Quicksilver Visa.

Here's the best part... the letter acknowledges that I'm already a customer!

"You already enjoy the benefits of being a Capital One® customer.  Now join all the Quicksilver® customers who earn cash back on everything they buy, everywhere they buy it..."

It goes on to offer me the usual $100 new account bonus for $500 in spending the first three months, and it offers me the same 18.24% APR that I'm offered when I use the online pre-qual site.  I've received two of these notices; they came in slightly different envelopes/letters but with the same information, but notably the reservation ID and access code that I would use online are different on each offer.

I obviously don't need yet another Quicksilver, and if anything I would apply for a Venture because the bonus is so much better.

Has anybody else with a Quicksilver (or two...) received a solicitation acknowledging you as an existing customer, and offering you yet another Quicksilver?

Hey Uncle Ben,

That is so cool....

Might be worth it for the uniqueness, alone!

Go for it....

Hmm... I'm not sure how 'unique' it would be to have a pocket full of QS cards, but at least I guess this means they like me?  LOL

P.S.  I'm not 'Ben'  Smiley LOL

Re: Odd Marketing from Capital One

At one point I believe I had three Quicksilver accounts Smiley Surprised

Only one was opened intentionally, one was an auto PC they did, and one was from them buying up other, smaller companies and converting the cards. At the time they wouldn't let me combine the accounts - which really annoyed me - but I basically just did it myself by requesting and getting a CLI on the Quicksilver with the best terms. The CLI exceeded the limits on the other two, and I then closed them. I kept the one account for about another 6-12 months before cutting ties with Capital One completely. No need to rant about them, but essentially I'd always been less than completely happy with them, already had much better cards/lenders, and thus decided to 'fire them' the next time they really ticked me off.

Anyway, throughout that period I'm pretty sure they were periodically offering me more Quicksilver accounts, lol. However, once I got rid of them the offers stopped altogether and I don't think I've had a single offer from them in the last few years. I think they know they're on my black list, and even though I closed my account in good standing and never had any derogs, I think I might be on their no-marketing list too since our 'break up' was a bit messy with me ranting at multiple CSRs during the closing process. Not my finest moment and I'm sorry to say they did make me lose my calm, but no longer doing business with them has made me very happy, so I guess it all worked out, lol.

I hear ya... if I only had the MasterCard I could almost understand the letter, since it's possible the marketing folks aren't "aware" that the MasterCard has been PC'd, but I got the Visa last spring (and got the bonus).

I know that those of us on this site are aware that they aren't enforcing the 'one bonus per account type' disclaimer, but it just seems odd that not only are they not actively enforcing it, they are actually encouraging existing customers to harvest yet another bonus for the same product.

I guess they really don't mind folks who get a wallet full of QS or Venture cards just for the bonuses... LOL  Smiley Surprised

Tell them to skip the triple pull and they got a deal Smiley Wink.I like your idea of the venture better, no need to keep canabalizing the same reward structure.

+1

That triple pull is tough!  I think the Venture is clearly the best deal if someone knows in advance they can make the spend requirement, since you can usually PC it to a Quicksilver before the first AF comes around, anyway.

Now that I think of it in those terms, that might (?) be why they are not activly offering me a Venture (in the mail offer - they do offer me a Venture online)... I put very little spend on my QS cards now that I have other cards with better category rewards.

Maybe they think (based on my historic spending with them) that I would be more likely to hit the low spend requirement to get a QS bonus?

"Things that make you go hmm..."  Smiley LOL

(showing my age there... LOL)

Re: Odd Marketing from Capital One

Both my wife and I both received the same offers. We both already have QS MC's and she also has an old Secured MC. But what disappointed me was the the offers were for both her and I were for regular QS Visa's... not Signature. Smiley Frustrated

That's interesting... I didn't even think to pay attention to that, so I went just now and looked at both letters and you're right - my offer(s) don't mention anything about 'Signature', either.

When you apply online you automatically get a 'Signature' version if your credit line is $5k or higher (otherwise it's a QS 'platinum' Visa), so I can only assume it would work the same way with the mailer.

That's an excellent catch in any case... you would think they would spell that out in the offer.  Hmm...  spock.gif
