Offered Amex Gold

I called them today to see if there were any upgardes or offers and she told me I was preapproved for the Gold card, yay. My only thing is I am in the process of paying off all of my debt, so do I really need the card? Any and all help as always is greatly appreciated. Semper Fi

Re: Offered Amex Gold

I had the card years ago when I traveled a lot and had big spend.  Also had the Plat. Liked the Gold better for the value. Kept it until I got mad at AX for putting a limit on it. Kind of defeated the purpose so I cancelled.  I wouldn't get it unless you have enough monthly spend and can use the benefits it offers.

The regular Gold isn't as good as the PRG. I would inquire via chat with them about transferring that Gold offer into a PRG offer. They are both charge cards, which if you use the PRG right for gas and restauraunts, the MR points build quickly. The regular Gold doesn't stack up in my book.

Yes, I think the consensus is that there is no point getting the Gold, just the PRG.

But, only get it if it satisfies a real need!   You need to be able to justify the AF (after the first year), make the most of the travel credit (which reduces the effective AF) and most importantly, have a plan as to how to use MR.   Collecting them quickly doesn't help if you can't make much use of them!

Re: Offered Amex Gold

Yep make sure it's the PRG, not the regular Gold.

If you're paying stuff off and feel that this might put you back into the hole, it might not be worth it. Those offers will always be there in the future..
