On older closed account question...

I have a quick questions that someone maybe able to answer...

I opened a credit card up with my credit union in 3/2002 and I had to have my dad co-sign for me to get the card.  It was a limit of $1000 or so, nothing crazy... just wanted to get my credit established.  My dad had no problem with it either.  As I got older, I got another card on my own with a $2000 limit (7/03).  I didn't think about my dad still being on my credit card until a while later.  I decided that I had shown that I was financially responsible and wanted my financial independence from my parents.  I called to the credit union to see about getting my dad removed as a co-signer they told me I must apply for another card.  I didn't know anything about credit at the time and did it in 12/2005.

I have pulled all three reports and they say "account closed at consumer's request" and post the high balance.  On a seperate tradeline, my "new" card that says active and "pays as agreed."

Who do I need to contact to merge the age of the accounts, the credit union or EQ,EX and TU?  I know it sounds petty to worry about almost 4years of history, but at my age (25) it makes a huge difference in average age of the accounts.  They are obviously they same accounts, because they are both revolving and closed/opened in consecutive months, but that hurt my average age of accounts.

It this something I need to contact my credit union about or the credit bureaus?  Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Re: On older closed account question...

You would contact the CU over this.

However, the old account is currently being factored into your average age of accounts. It will count until it drops off of your reports about 10 years after the date you closed it.

*Note: its credit limit is not being factored into util even though its age is helping.
